This page is to help raise money for Alex's pending medical costs and his recovery.

Just one day into a bmx trip to Georgia during his birthday week, Alex took a hard fall on his head while riding at a local skatepark on May 13th. He was immediately knocked unconscious, and transported via ambulance to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Once he arrived, he was taken into the trauma unit, and placed in an induced coma to ensure the best care for him.

Alex was wearing his helmet and we're so lucky for that! He is now in the ICU, and doing well as they're slowly take him out of the induced coma. The doctors are doing the best they can to make sure he's comfortable and doing tests to make sure everything is okay!

Any help is greatly appreciated! Please keep Alex in your thoughts as we await any news from the tests. I'll be updating as we find out more information about his recovery and medical costs.

Thank you all!

An update from Alex:

I can’t believe it’s already been a month since my accident. To me mentally it only feels like it’s been a couple of days since I was in Georgia. My memory is just so cloudy or non existent since then.. my therapy has been going well but I’m also learning a lot of new things about myself. Luckily they are normal things to be experiencing with this condition but still freak me out. My balance and strength have been greatly effected in most cases. I can feel the shakiness in my legs when I walk but if I try to stand on one foot it just doesn’t happen. I believe I have a few months of physical training to re train all of these things it’s just weird feeling it happen. I feel fully confident I can do these exercises but have such a difficult time. Thankfully memory is starting to get a little bit better but I’m aware of my weak points. Doing everything I can and can’t wait to get myself back to normal. Trying to go out and experience more social things which has been great, I can feel it really helping my memory!

From Alex:

Hello everyone, I have some new updates and results on my condition. On Monday I met with my neurologist and had an EEG scan and afterwords I was able to get my results for that scan and my MRI. The results were extremely positive. I don’t have permanent brain damage but I do have a contusion and bruising on the brain. I will continue to experience short term memory loss but will get better as I continue my therapy’s and train my brain. I was informed I am completely recoverable and can start doing some of my normal activities now and that will help my brain heal as well. I’m extremely thankful and excited and can’t wait to start seeing you guys!

A note from Alex:

Everyone, I just want to say how much I thank you for everything you have done for me these past few weeks. This has been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through but just having the caring and help from everyone has given me confidence back. I'm still working on getting my memory back and I know there's a lot of details I don't know about. But I do know that the appreciation and thankfulness I have is extremely important to me and I care so much! I apologize if some of this isn't typed out correctly or if i repeat myself at all I'm having issues typing unfortunately. I have had my conscience back for a week, since i got back in Sarasota. I have no memory at all of my crash or anything being in Georgia after. I did meet with josh this past week and he explained to me how i fell and what happened from there. It drove me crazy not knowing how I fell but I have an understanding now and am able to think about it. It drives me crazy how this was absolute worst case scenario for what I was doing. I don't ride my bike competitively and to really get better anymore, i just ride because its what ive done my entire life and it's what i enjoy doing but I wanted to stay careful with it. As much as dont want to say it, i'd rather it be the opposite and have physical pain over mental pain. I have never had to go through a brain injury before so this is all new to me and has been very overwhelming to learn about. I have brain therapy doctors appointments almost every day which i am extremely thankful for and they have been helping me tremendously. I'm not sure how my memory before my accident is but there has been a few things brought up i can't remember at all. I didnt think my prior memory was affected but it seems to be a little bit. These are most of the details i know of right now. Im learning new everyday and praying i can remember it. My therapists have said i am doing an excellent job and are challenging me even more to help my brain so im very happy to know that. I'm still awaiting my MRI results and am expecting them tomorrow and have an EEG scan and checkup tomorrow so i'm hoping to find more details. I'm just extremely thankful this wasnt anymore worse and i am extremely thankful for all of you and your help and communication i'm so beyond proud and I can't wait to be able to see everyone and be better. Just wanted to give a huge thank you and update as to how i've been doing this week now that i can finally type. Thank you all and i will do my best to keep updated with the information i find out.

Love, Alex

I haven’t updated on Alex’s progress in a while, but Alex has been busy posting things on social media to keep everyone informed that he’s okay. It’s been six days since he has been home, and he’s been doing better every day!

Today is the second day Alex has attended his therapy appointments which have been helping him with his memory (physical, occupational, and speech). He is mostly struggling with short term memories, but he’s now keeping a journal to help him with that.

We have a lot more testing ahead, including EEG, MRI, and X-rays of his shoulder.

Thank you for your continued support, thoughts, and prayers ❤️
Therapy day 2!
