Help Steven Combat Liver Failure

*Please read updates below and in the update tab*

On Friday, March 8 PHT (UTC +8), in Manila , Steven Atenta was at a draft camp for the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG). He wanted to make the cut so he could not only represent his sport, Arnis, but win gold for our country, The Philippines. He was hard at work during the training session. Because of his physical exertion in the sweltering heat, he suddenly suffered a heatstroke and collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent dialysis.

We all thought he was doing better, but his liver is failing. The doctors are going to try to do a plasmapheresis to see if it helps with his recovery. If unsuccessful, he will need a liver transplant. As of now, we are all praying that the plasmapheresis will work out.

Besides the emotional strain, his family is also currently burdened by the financial side of this medical emergency. We humbly knock on the kindness of your hearts. Please consider donating to our cause, Help Steven Combat Liver Failure.  As of March 31, 2019, his medical bill is over 1.9 million PHP ($36,000+ in USD), and this is without the professional fees included. It is increasing, and every one of his friends are doing the best we can to help lessen the financial stress on his family.

Steven is a three-time world champion in Arnis, regional gold medalist, national gold medalist, and a qualifier for the SEAG. He is a wonderful guy who makes it impossible for you to hate. He is a kind-hearted guy who gets along with everyone. He always has a smile on his face despite the troubles and tragedies life tends to test him with. We’d like to think he can overcome this, too, with your help. Steven’s two main passions in life include Philippine Martial Arts and Filipino cinema. Having contributed to both fields, he’s got a bright future ahead of him. We’re anxious to put him back on his feet as we miss him already.

For those interested in donating, we’re so thankful for your generosity. All donations are transferred to his sister, Stephanie Idea, in order for them to pay off his medical expenses and physical therapy. Please reach out to us when you’re ready so we can make the arrangements. If you're not able to support in cash or kind, we’d appreciate it so much if you share this to help spread the word. Anything you can contribute for Steven's recovery is a blessing!

[UPDATE 3-12-19 @6:04am PDT ] Doctors have informed us that Steven may be of need for a liver transplant. Now more than ever, we appeal to anyone who is willing and able to donate any amount to reach the $50,000 deposit required to start the procedure. Hopefully, a transplant would not be needed.

[UPDATE 3-14-2019 @ 11:38pm PDT] Steven has been moved into IMCU, which is a step down from ICU. The doctors said that he is recovering remarkably and doesn’t need the plasma exchange! His battle is almost over for his liver! Steven is wholeheartedly thankful for everyone helping him conquer his battle! NO TRANSPLANT IS NEEDED!!!! The bill is surprisngly at 1.2 million PHP ( $21,000) and still growing. As of now, we are all going to work hard to help him with his expenses for the hefty medical bill and physical therapy! Keep on sharing this story!  Let’s continue to fight with him!

[EDIT 3-18-19] It seems that Facebook looked at the report and unflagged it as spam. You should be able to share accordingly.

We're still doing out best to help our friend, Steven Atenta, even with this mishap.

[UPDATE 3-17-19 @2:23am PDT] Per Stephanie:

"Day 9: Steven is gaining back his strength. During today’s physical therapy session he was allowed to walk a few steps with a walker. The doctor said next time Steven can practice with a cane because he’s lifting the walker instead of letting it glide across the floor. LOL

All of Steven’s blood parameters are good but his bilirubin is still high. The doctors are seeing that it only increased just a little compared to yesterday and it might start to taper off now. He will still need to have dialysis daily to help support his kidneys till they are fully awake. As a last resort if the bilirubin is still too high he will need the plasma exchange."
