Help Slain Chili's manager family.
I am the cousin of Steve Gudknecht. I am starting this fundraiser page to help with living expenses for the Slain manager of the Chili's restaurant in Dewitt, NY on September 14th, 2018. Chili's has graciously offered to pay for the funeral expenses. We are absolutely grateful to the company for all they have done so far. This fundraiser is for his 2 surviving children. The funds will be handled by Nancy Chappell, Steves Mother, The children's Grandmother on behalf of Steves Children.
Steve was managing the late shift around 1 am at the Chili's restaurant in Dewitt, NY when an ex-employee entered through the back door of the building with a gun and robbed the chili's. Unfortunately, my cousin Steve and another employee of the restaurant Kris Hicks were gunned down in cold blood. My cousin died at the scene and Kris was rushed to the hospital where he also died.
We all would like to thank everyone in advance for helping out my cousins family as Steve is survived by a 14-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son. they will both now be growing up without Dad. I will try to find and provide a link to a fundraiser for Kris Hicks if possible.
It's hard to think only a couple of months ago 2 great people were murdered over a few dollars. It's harder to imagine this happening at the hands and cause of more than 5 people. As the criminal cases start for these animals.
My cousin's kids are learning a new way of life without a Dad. His Mother Nancy is learning to take over Steves responsibilities now that he is gone so suddenly.
For those of you that know my Aunt Nancy, you know that she already had a full plate, to begin with with her other son in the military. Her husband having MS and dealing with not only being his caregiver but fundraising for the MS cause if her available time. With the loss of her Son Steve, she is still showing her continued strength.
In honor of them, I do ask and will continue to ask that you donate and share this page with your family friend and coworkers. I believe it is the best way for everyone to not only show support but to help ensure that Steves kids get a fair shot at a future.
Thank you all again for taking the time to read this update and continuing to help me keep this page alive and continuing to move forward for them.
Stephen would have been 38 last Saturday, Not having him around for his birthday is tuff. I know his kids missed him the most.
I'd like to ask everyone for a Happy Birthday share for my cousin Steve and also his friend Kris.
Kris's page is still a little short of its goal amount.
Kris Hicks Gofundme page.
I wanted to say thank you again for continuing to share and donate to help Steve's kids.
The dental profession as a whole is an amazing group. The support you guys show my Aunt Nancy is amazing. I know she has been working in the field for a long time but did not realize the way you guys back each other up. I love it. Thank you and please keep it going.
I also want to thank my aunt's personal friends and family. As you can see from the comments she has many that show her love and support. I know she is as grateful as I am that you are all behind her while dealing with all this. Please continue to show your support as this really is just getting started.
I will be making updates about the Kids, Nancy and Steves only brother Chris (Who is leaving again for military service in Africa this Sunday) Part of future updates for those donors who chose to follow the campaign.
Please join me in remembering Steve on his Birthday this Saturday, September 29th.
He would have been 38.
Please continue to share his page.
I was in NY the past weekend attending funerals for Steve and Kris, My heart goes out to everyone involved as we all lost 2 great people.
Just so everyone knows we are working with a pro bono legal team and GoFundMe to make sure every donated dollar (aside from GoFundMe fees) goes directly to the children. The money you all graciously donated will be held with GoFundMe until all of the proper paperwork has been completed by this legal team.
The outpouring of support is amazing. I do beg you all to keep it going. We have a long road ahead. Please continue to share and donate if you can.
Thank you all. I couldn't do this without you.
