Saludos a todos! Somos Simón Rincón y Eduardo Hernández, estudiantes del último año de Licenciatura en Física de la Universidad Simón Bolívar, en Caracas, Venezuela y creamos esta campaña para pedirles ayuda, ya que deseamos poder continuar nuestros estudios en esta ciencia tan asombrosa.
Para nosotros esta carrera ofrece una gran oportunidad para conocer los fenómenos físicos que desde pequeños han llamado nuestra atención. Desde el comienzo de la carrera hemos sido capaces de disfrutar el poder de la física para predecir y explicar fenómenos interesantes, algunos bastante conocidos, y otros algo contra-intuitivos.
Nuestra pasión por la física nos ha permitido mantener un alto rendimiento en la carrera, así como nuestra dedicación y compromiso con ella. Esto se ve reflejado en nuestra contribución al dictar preparadurias de las varias materias básicas y avanzadas de la carrera. Ambos ahora mismo nos encontramos realizando nuestros proyectos de grado, Simón en Mecánica Cuántica e Información Cuántica y Eduardo en modelos computacionales en Física Estadística, las cuales son nuestras principales áreas de interés.
En Física se aprende continuamente, y terminar la licenciatura no significa que seremos los físicos que queremos ser. Por esto es que nuestro próximo paso es aplicar a una maestría en el exterior, ya que así podremos tener acceso a lugares de estudio de vanguardia, así como enriquecer nuestra mente. Todo científico debe estar abierto a nuevas ideas y nuevas formas de pensar, lo que una nueva cultura y una perspectiva distinta puede ofrecer.
A pesar de la buena formación que hemos recibido en la USB, la universidad está muriendo y su calidad decayendo súbitamente debido a la fuerte crisis económica que azota al país [1]. Esto hace imposible el desarrollo de las ciencias debido a la falta de presupuesto y la disminución casi completa de la investigación en las universidades. Actualmente el salario mínimo mensual en Venezuela es de Bs.S 1800 lo que al cambio al dólar paralelo equivale aproximadamente a 10$ y al precio oficial del dólar según el Banco Central de Venezuela equivale a 28$ [2],[3], precio al que es imposible obtener dólares, debido a las leyes que regulan la adquisición de divisas en el país. Por otro lado, la canasta básica familiar para finales del mes de agosto se encontraba a Bs.S 12.211,55 que equivale aproximadamente a 71$ en el mercado negro y a 190$ en la tasa oficial [4], por lo que la mayoría de los venezolanos no tiene la posibilidad de cubrir la canasta básica para mantenerse. Debido a todo esto, ni nosotros ni nuestras familias de bajos recursos tenemos la posibilidad de cubrir los costos para pagar el TOEFL, las aplicaciones a universidades y las traducciones de los documentos. Como pueden notar, el deterioro económico de Venezuela, hace muy difícil la obtención de este dinero para poder continuar nuestros estudios, y es por esto que estamos solicitando su ayuda.
El registro del TOEFL solo cubre cuatro universidades, por lo que tendremos que pagar para aplicaciones extra. También debemos cubrir los costos de las traducciones, y los costos de enviar los documentos a las universidades. Sumándole a esto la comisión de GoFundMe, necesitaremos cubrir:
· Registro del TOEFL: 450$
· Aplicaciones extra: 100$ (aproximadamente)
· Traducir y enviar documentos: 100$ (aproximadamente)
· Comisión de GoFundMe: 50$ (aproximadamente)
El registro del TOEFL debe ser cancelado en dolares con una tarjeta de débito americana. Nuestra amiga y ex-compañera de la universidad, Karleyda Sandoval, amablemente nos prestará la suya para realizar los pagos, por lo cual el dinero será transferido a la cuenta de ella. Cualquier ayuda que nos puedan brindar, ya sea de forma económica o compartiendo la campaña con sus conocidos será bien recibida, ya que nos acercará mas a cumplir nuestros sueños. Recuerden, ninguna contribución es demasiado pequeña.

Hello everyone! We are Simón Rincón and Eduardo Hernández, students of the last year of a Bachelor Degree in Physics at Universidad Simón Bolívar, in Caracas, Venezuela, and we created this campaign to ask for support, as we wish to continue our studies in this awesome science.
As we mentioned, we both study Physics, and for us this career offers a great opportunity to know about the physical phenomena that caught our attention. From the start of our career we've been able to enjoy the power of physics to predict and explain these interesting phenomena, some known and some counter-intuitive.
Our passion for physics has allowed us to maintain a high performance in our career, as well as a level of dedication and compromise. This is reflected in our contribution as teaching assistants of the many basic and advanced topics. We both now are doing our thesis, Simon in quantum mechanics and quantum information and Eduardo in computational models in statistical physics, both of which are in our areas of interest.
Physics is a career where you learn continuously, and finishing our bachelor doesn't mean that we are going to be the physicists that we want to be. Considering this, our next step is to apply to a Master Program abroad. This will allow us to be part of the places that are at the top of research in areas of our interest, as well as to enrich our minds, since every scientist should be open-minded to new ideas and new ways of thinking, and all of this can be offered by a different culture and perspective. It is an experience that benefits us as much as it benefits science, since this opportunity give rise to great scientific advances.
Despite the excellent education that we have received at USB, the university is dying and its quality is falling suddenly due to the huge economic crisis that whips our country [1]. The lack of funding and the discrimination of university level research makes impossible the progress of science. Right now, the minimum monthly wage in Venezuela is of Bs.S 1800, which in the black market is equal to 10$, and at the official price according to the BCV is 28$ [2],[3], a price that is inaccessible for most of the Venezuelans because of the strict laws of currency exchange. The familiar basic food basket for the month of August is Bs.S 12.211,55 which is equal to 71$ in the black market and 190$ at the official change, which means most of the Venezuelans don't really have the possibility of covering the basic food basket to sustain themselves. Because of this, neither we nor our low-income families have the possibility of covering the costs of the TOEFL, the applications to many of the universities and the translations of the documents. As you can note, the economic descent of Venezuela makes it really hard for us to find enough money to be able to continue our studies, and that is why we're asking for your help.
The TOEFL registry only covers four universities, so we need to pay for any extra applications. We also have to cover the costs of the translations and the cost of sending the documents to the universities. Considering also the GoFundMe fee, we need to cover:
· TOEFL: 450$
· Extra applications: 100$ (approx.)
· Translating and sending documents: 100$ (approx.)
· GoFundMe fee: 50$ (approx.)
The TOEFL registration fee must be payed in dollars, for which we need an american debit card. For this purpose, our friend Karleyda Sandoval offered hers, and the funds will be transferred to her account so that she can pay for our applications. Any help you can offer, in economic form or sharing the campaign among your peers will be welcome, as it will get us closer to complete our dreams. Remember, no contribution is too small.
