JESSICA MCINNIS:  VICTIM OF SYSTEMIC SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE THROUGH THE TORONTO POLICE

My name is Tanya Hodgeman, I currently reside in Durham Region, Jessica McInnis and I have been best friends for 26 years. We have been through a lot together: she was there when my daughter was born and we have shared many other life journeys. She has been a great deal of support for me. Now I am going to be there to support her in her time of need! 

Jessica has been a Toronto Police officer for 20 years. I was at her graduation and witnessed her receiving many awards over that period.  I have seen how many lives she has touched with the kindness and empathy that she has generously given to victims of crime, as well as the compassion she has displayed.

For the last few years, Jessica McInnis was sexually harassed by another Toronto police officer.  This became an intolerable nightmare and she finally had to report it, following which, she became the subject of a number of reprisals.  With no other option, she made an application to the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal against the perpetrator and four others respondents, alleging sexual harassment in the workplace. 


We ALL have a right not to be harassed at work! 

Statements already made on behalf of respondents have made it clear that the proceedings will be vigorously contested, forcing Jessica to endure a lengthy and costly battle involving numerous lawyers and many witnesses over several days.  The cost of these proceedings will be huge and well beyond her means.
