Help Scouts, replace stolen stuff!

Donation protected

We are Scouts.

Boys and Girls, Men and Women.
Inclusively part of the Worldwide Brother & Sisterhood of Scouting.
In Binbrook, we are home to one of the largest groups in Canada, and we are very active. Both in serving our own community, and exploring the world around us, inside and outside of our borders.
Sharing with youth and adults, the ideals of truly making this world a better place, learning new skills & wisdom... and having a good time while we're at it.
Work hard, play hard. That's how we do it.
Helping each other, and our world, as we go.

On Tuesday March 28th, in the middle of a sunny afternoon, thieves hooked up to and drove away with a cargo trailer filled with our equipment, supplies, and program pieces, as well as boxed goods for our next planned group fundraiser.
The trailer was in a safe place, 15 feet in front of a volunteer's home, while he was working inside the house. The move was bold, audacious, and in hindsight perhaps premeditated, as a vehicle normally blocking it had just been temporarily moved.

The saddest part about it to us, is that there were numerous indicators to the thieves that they were about to steal from the youth of our community, and yet, they still took it...

Some of the equipment is valuable but generic, other was custom built for our Scouting programs. Among the objects, they took our custom KubKar Track (pinewood derby) if you are familiar with that... custom made, to support not just Cub Scouts, but for all ages from Beaver Buggies, up to Ultimate Class Scout Trucks for youth from across the region.

The trailer itself however, is how we get all the kids personal gear, clothing, bedding, etc, to and from camps and adventures, so the trailer loss itself is a serious impact... and neither the trailer, nor the equipment, were insured. (it was not possible to do so, and we have always stored everything as carefully and securely as possible)

We estimate the loss, all told, at well over $10,900.

We do raise our own funds, already, through hard work in the community, and the sale of practical goods.

That's how Scouts take care of themselves. We are not government sponsored, and must raise every penny we spend - ourselves - the youth, their families, and the volunteers.

As a rule, and/or a philosophy, we don't solicit donations, nor do we normally have our "hands out". (so please, this is NOT a solicitation)
However, in this case, if we don't somehow start accepting what folks are already willing to give, all of this year's funds that were budgeted to get kids to camp, on adventures, and support our program, will have to be used up in just replacing what was stolen from us... and the youth will suffer a second time.

The youth earned the money to pay for what you're helping to replace, the first time around, so we'd like to think Lord Baden Powell would be ok with that... :-)

Thank you for your support.
You will have the grateful thanks, of a fantastic bunch of Scouts.

Note: as a Registered Canada Charity, we can ensure that larger donations made can receive a tax receipt. Please visit www.1stBinbrook.org/trailer for more details, before making a donation. (we can't issue after)
