DER TRAUM VON SMOOBAR ...
Seit Langem träume ich davon ein Café zu betreiben, das gesundes, leckeres Essen und erfrischende Getränke anbietet und gleichermaßen auf Nachhaltigkeit achtet. Nach drei Jahren der Suche nach dem perfekten Ort, Recherchen über verschiedene Aspekte zum Betrieb eines Cafés in Deutschland, Sammeln von Investitionen und Krediten und unzähliger Jobs, um ein sicheres Startkapital zu bilden, wurde im März 2017 mein Traum wahr: SmooBar öffnete zum ersten Mal seine Türen.
Von Beginn an gewährleisten Kooperationen mit regionalen Landwirten und lokalen Unternehmen frische Waren und nachvollziehbare Produktionsverhältnisse, damit unnötige CO2-Emissionen vermieden werden. Zudem werden Künstler*innen unterstützt, indem die Räumlichkeiten von SmooBar als Ausstellungsfläche dienen. Monatliche Ausstellungen lokaler und internationaler Künstler*innen machen SmooBar zu etwas Anderem, Einzigartigem und Selbstständigem, einem Ort der Kultur und des Genuss.
SMOOBARS AKTUELLE HERAUSFORDERUNG
Seit der Eröffnung konnte SmooBar zunehmend neue Kund*innen glücklich machen und durch weitere Anschaffungen das Sortiment erweitern und verbessern. Überschüssige Einnahmen wurden direkt reinvestiert und bis zuletzt hat sich gezeigt, dass diese Anstrengungen sich lohnten. Die zunehmende Anzahl an Kund*innen bestätigt diese Entscheidung. SmooBar lief so gut wie noch nie, doch dann trat ein Problem auf, das die Existenz von SmooBar, meinem Lebenstraum, bedroht.
Aufgrund einer Änderung meines Familienstands wurde Mitte Juli die Verlängerung meines Visums abgelehnt und mir wurde meine Arbeitserlaubnis entzogen. Eine Erneuerung meines Visums und meiner Arbeitserlaubnis erfolgt erst in etwa drei Monaten. Meine Ersparnisse und Rücklagen sind bereits aufgebraucht. Diese Crowdfunding-Kampagne ist die letzte Hoffnung die Existenz von SmooBar zu sichern, damit ich die derzeitigen monatlichen Fixkosten von 2.500 Euro begleichen kann. Daher brauche ich Ihre Unterstützung!
MEHR ÜBER SMOOBAR
Wir bieten eine große Auswahl an vegetarischen und veganen internationalen Speisen (griechisch, mexikanisch, persisch, französisch) mit frisch gepressten Säften und Smoothies. Die meisten unserer Getränke und Biere sind biologisch. Die Mehrheit unserer Produkte sind von regionalen Herstellern, wie lokalen Bauernhöfen und landwirtschaftlichen Projekten. Wir vermeiden Plastikbehälter auf Erdölbasis. Unsere Produkte werden entweder im Haus serviert oder Kund*innen bringen ihre eigenen Becher oder Behälter mit und erhalten dadurch einen Rabatt. Zudem kann unser Essen und unsere Getränke in PLA- (Biokunststoff) oder Recycling-Bechern / -Containern mitgenommen werden.
SmooBar unterstützt lokale und internationale Künstler*innen und veranstaltet eine monatliche Vernissage, auf der sie ihre Werke präsentieren. Kund*innen haben die Möglichkeit mit den Künstler*innen in Kontakt zu treten und ihre Werke zu erwerben.
ÜBER SMOOBARS GRÜNDERIN
Mein Name ist Shaz. Ich bin geboren und aufgewachsen in Philadelphia, USA. Seit mehr als zehn Jahren wohne und arbeite ich als Köchin, Barkeeperin und Künstlerin in Berlin. In dieser Zeit habe ich in verschiedenen Bars und Restaurants Speisen unterschiedlicher Kulturen zubereitet. Meine Erfahrungen reichen über mexikanische, persische, italienische, asiatische und bayrische Spezialitäten, bis hin zu Latino-Streetfood.
Seit meiner Ankunft in Berlin bin ich ebenso aktives Mitglied der alternativen Künstlerszene von Friedrichshain. Dabei konzentriere ich mich im Wesentlichen auf Pyro-Performances, Schauspielerei und Musik. So entstanden über die Jahre hinweg vielfältige Kontakte zu anderen Künstler*innen. Diese Netzwerke bilden die Grundlage für regelmäßige Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen in SmooBar. Die Unterstützung der alternativen Kunstszene ist für mich ein wichtiges Anliegen. Es gibt viel zu entdecken, doch viele Werke bleiben unentdeckt, da Künstler*innen allzu oft Ausstellungsmöglichkeiten fehlen.
Um meinen Traum von SmooBar zu verwirklichen, betrieb ich einen hohen Aufwand. Bis zur Entziehung meiner Arbeitserlaubnis, übte ich nahezu täglich mindestens eine weitere Tätigkeit aus, damit die laufenden Kosten auf jeden Fall abgedeckt sind. Arbeiten in weiteren Bars und Restaurants sowie handwerkliche Tätigkeiten auf Messegeländen und Engagements als Schauspielerin und Performerin, ermöglichten mir die Anfangsphase von SmooBar finanziell zu meistern. Bis zur Erneuerung meiner Arbeitserlaubnis droht mir ein finanzielles Desaster. Diese Situation bedroht die Existenz von SmooBar und all den Möglichkeiten, die das Café bietet. Die Zeit bis zur Erneuerung meiner Arbeitserlaubnis gilt es jetzt für mich finanziell zu überbrücken. Diese Crowdfunding-Kampagne ist meine große und wahrscheinlich auch letzte Hoffnung.

DREAMING OF SMOOBAR…
For a long time I have dreamed of running a café that offers healthy, delicious food and refreshing drinks, supporting local farmers, businesses & artists, all the while with an eye on our carbon footprint . After three years of searching for the perfect location, researching various aspects of running a coffee shop in Germany, collecting investments and loans and countless jobs to create a secure startup capital, my dream came true: SmooBar opened the doors for the first time in March 2017.
SmooBar offers something different, something unique and self-sustaining, a location where international & local artists may showcase their work on a monthly rotating schedule and also emphasizing quality ingredients and healthy, mainly local produce while avoiding GMO products and petroleum-based plastics as much as possible.
SMOOBARS CURRENT CHALLENGES
Since its opening, SmooBar has been able to make new, satisfied customers, expanding & improving its product range. Excess revenue was directly reinvested and until recently, it has been proven that these efforts were worthwhile. The increasing number of customers confirms this decision. SmooBar was going better than ever, then a problem occurred that threatened the existence of SmooBar, my life's dream.
Due to a change in my marital status, my visa extension was denied in mid-July and my work permit was withdrawn. A renewal of my visa and work permit will take at least another three months, yet sadly my savings and reserves have already been used up. This crowdfunding campaign is the last hope to secure the existence of SmooBar, so that I can pay the current fixed monthly costs of € 2,500. Therefore, I need your support!
MORE ABOUT SMOOBAR
We offer a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan international food (Greek, Mexican, Persian, French) with freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. Most of our drinks and beers are organic. The majority of our products are from regional producers, such as local farms and agricultural projects. We avoid plastic containers based on petroleum. Our products are either served in-house or customers bring their own cups or containers and receive a discount. In addition, our food and drinks can be taken away in PLA (bioplastic) or recycled cups / containers.
SmooBar supports local & international artists, holding a monthly exhibition to present their works . Once a month,we celebrate a new artist during an evening of libations and laughter, good vibes and networking… everyone coming together to be part of the fun! Customers have the opportunity to get in touch with the artists and to inquire / acquire their works.
ABOUT THE OWNER
My name is Shaz. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, USA. For more than eleven years I have been living and working here in Berlin as a Cook, Bartender & Artist. During this time, I prepared dishes from different cultures in various bars and restaurants. My experiences range from Mexican, Persian, Italian, Asian, Bavarian specialties to Latino street food.
Since my arrival in Berlin I’ve been also an active member of the alternative artist scene in Friedrichshain and surrounding areas, concentrating mainly on Pyro-Choreography, Acting / Theatre & Music. Over the years, this has resulted in a plethera of contacts with other artists. These networks form the basis for regular exhibitions and events in SmooBar. The support of the alternative art scene is extremely important to me. There is much to discover, but many works go undetected, as artists too often lack exhibition opportunities.
I have paid a large price in blood, sweat and tears, in order to realize my dream of SmooBar.. Up until the denial of renewing of my work permit, I worked at least one, sometimes two jobs daily, so the running costs are covered. I worked in other bars and restaurants, as well as doing carpentry at exhibition halls and fairgrounds, theatrical performances and other odd jobs, all of which have enabled me to financially master the initial phase of SmooBar. Since two months I have been awaiting the renewal of my work permit and may have to wait at least another three months before I am allowed to start working again. My financial reserve is depleted, threatening me financially and causing a major disaster in the dream of SmooBar. This situation threatens the existence of SmooBar and all the possibilities that the Café offers. Until I am allowed to work again, this crowdfunding campaign may be my last hope in saving SmooBar.

The temporary denial of renewing my work permit has unfortunately rendered me quite helpless. The existence and future of SmooBar can only be guaranteed by you and other supporters.
