Mika Needs A Feeding Tube!!

Donation protected
My name is Lillian and this GoFundMe is to try and save my cat Mika. A little about me, I am a junior at the University of Texas at Austin. I am pre-med psychology with goals to become a psychiatrist.

My cat Mika is a 3 year old domestic short hair. She is a huge snuggle bug, loves meeting new people so she can get pets. Her favorite things to do are get pet, play with the string toy and sun bathe!

I adopted Mika at the end of April. My brother has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor and while I was unable to help in anyway with that, I needed something to redirect my energy to. At this time, Mika literally wondered into my life. Mika came to me off the street, walked right over to me and rubbed herself on my leg. I immediately decided to take her in. At a local shelter I found out she was already microchipped and the vet got in contact with the family that she was registered to. I was sad, to say the least, but to my surprise the family surrendered her over to me!

I now believe that it is because they had set Mika loose on the street to let her die. I noticed towards the middle of May that Mika was no longer eating. I was in a transition period from finishing finals and going back to my parent's place. When I got to my parents place, I immediately knew something was wrong with Mika and decided to take her to a local vet. It was there I received the news.

Mika's liver values were very high, she was jaundicing and her gallbladder was incredibly inflamed and enlarged. I was given an antibiotic and a medication to help promote better flow of bile through the gallbladder which would reduce inflammation. This is when I found out how horrible it is to give Mika oral medication. She spits, foams, throws her head, and uses her tongue to force anything she can out of it. Mika continued to decline while we fought to get as much medicine in her as we could. It got to the point where I brought her to an emergency vet. There they gave me the news that Mika was worse than before. They recommended to either put her down or to take her to a speciality teaching hospital. I could not live with myself if I put her down without trying.

At the teaching hospital, Texas A&M Small Animal Hospital, they admitted her and to my surprise they got her eating on her own on the very first day! They told me that with how bad this case was, Mika had probably had this issue for a long time. Definitely before I adopted her.  They told me her gallbladder was in bad shape. They decided to aspirate her liver and gallbladder and culture it. There they found that the inside of Mika's gallbladder was filled with sludge. The aspiration and culture did not reveal anything but Mika continued to improve which assured the vets that it was most likely a bacterial infection that caused all this. After 4 days in the hospital, they sent Mika home (reluctantly because they loved how sweet she was!) with new medications.

I returned to the hospital 3 days later for a follow-up visit to find that all her liver values had gone up -- some worse than before. I was distraught after thinking we had gotten her through the woods. My Mika has continued to decline going from 7.5 lbs to 6 lbs. She is barely eating much and the struggle to get medication into her properly is stressing everyone out. I have been told the only way to save Mika is to once again hospitalize her until her issues have resolved completely. The vets reassure me that she can be saved! She just needs the proper care to get there.

Any donations to the cause are going directly to putting her in the hospital and getting her a feeding tube to get medicine and food in her. I am no longer able to afford another stay as I used up all my savings and part of my tuition pay to try and save her. This cat pulled me through one of the hardest times in my life! I would be a mess if I wasn't able to return that to her. Mika is a literal god send for me and I pray that I will be able to save her.

Any help will make a difference. Thank you for reading. God Bless.
