Help Save Gustavo!

Donation protected
On Sunday morning, my best friend Laura was walking her dogs in one of their favorite places here in Santa Cruz.  They spotted a coyote and as she went to gather her 3 dogs, another coyote appeared in front of them.  The first coyote then came running up behind them, and the two coyotes then ambushed Gustavo and forced him to run away from Laura into the woods.  She spent 2 days in the forest looking for him.  He is 15 pounds, just the sweetest boy ever, and her heart was broken that he obviously had been taken and would never be held by her again.

But then, a miracle happened!  Today she got a phone call from a school that the 8th graders had found Gustavo....He is alive!  It is truly a miracle that not only he survived but that he made his way a mile out of the woods to this tiny little Waldorf school.

He has numerous broken ribs and deep puncture wounds on his head and neck.  His liver suffered severe bruising, which is a big problem as he was diagnosed with a liver disease years ago.  His cornea on one of his eyes is badly scratched .  But he is alive and is currently at Pacific Vet Emergency Hospital and Laura is just full of disbelief and gratitude!

The vet is telling her he will be in ICU for at least three days on numerous antibiotics and painkillers.   It is truly a one day at a time thing but they are giving him a good prognosis for survival at this point.

His treatment will be very extensive and therefore very expensive.  Laura's other dog Banksy just about 6 weeks ago was found in a coma and spent several days in this very same ICU.  It has not been a good spring for Miss Laura!

I have known Laura for 25 years, and she is one of the most caring, generous, and wonderful people I know.  Hugely talented in agility, art, and horse training, she is 100% humble and would never ask for a thing.  She has literally saved me and my sanity numerous times by helping me through the worst experiences of my life.   She never asks anything from anyone, she is just humble and grateful and responsible and real.  She is my best friend and the best business partner I could ever have.

She will probably get mad at me (!) for doing this, as we have actually talked about the moral implications of these GoFundMe accounts many times.  She is the kind of person who believes that when we take on the responsibility of an animal, that it is our job to do whatever we can to take care of them.  For her that has meant a special "animal" credit card and foregoing expensive dinners out/clothes that don't come from the Gap/buying a new saddle when hers has HOLES in it!!   I can't even imagine the beating that credit card has taken these last 6 weeks...please help me do what we can to lighten her burden just a little.

Thank you so much!  Vicki Rose
