Hello everyone ... My name is David Chan and my wife Norma.  We had just moved to Swalwell, Alberta from Richmond, BC.  When we arrived in Alberta, we got devastating word that my friend, Rob Erke was diagnosed with Flesh Eating Disease on Saturday, July 7th, 2018.  Rob has been in Royal Columbia Hospital since, with surgery after surgery.  Rob is a family man, with a wife, Eilish and son, Bronson, is the sole breadwinner of the family, NEEDS your HELP!

He had complained about shoulder pain several weeks prior to being diagnosed, went to see a doctor and all they did was prescribe painkillers.  Another week went by and once again went to see a doctor in emergency, this time they gave him antibiotics.  By Saturday evening, he fell unconscious at home and was sent to emergency, at this time they diagnosed him with flesh eating disease, unfortunately the discovery was too late and his blood has become septic, the toxins have spread through his body.

At this time, he is to have surgery every second day to try and stop the infection from spreading further, the prognosis is somewhat grim.  He has already lost 3/4 of his shoulder and still requires more tissue to be removed.  Even if he makes it through this, the unfortunate part is that he would not be able to continue within the business that he is in and would have to find another career.

Rob is a man who is a little rough around the edges, but  man with a heart of gold with a positive outlook in life that many wish they had.  He and his wife, Eilish work with so many kids from dysfunctional families and provides a safe place for them to stay should they need the environment of family and love, which many of these children have not experienced before.

Rob and Eilish worship their son, Bronson and everything they do is all about helping their son set up his future.  The sacrifices that I have seen them make is unbelievable.  Rob working long hours just so he can try and take the summer off when Bronson is out of school so that they could spend time together.  He is totally devoted to his family and friends.  To see the bond between father and son is incredible.

I know that if Rob knew what I was doing he would probably kick my butt, he is a proud man and sometimes men like this know the meaning of giving but really have no idea how to accept help when they need it.  I know this to be true as I am exactly the same way as he, we know how to give, but man when it comes to receiving, it is the most uncomfortable feeling in the world.

My wife & I have known Rob for approximately 6 years through my snake business and he has made a major imprint in our life.

I feel so helpless, now in Alberta and our friend is in the hospital in BC.  I am appealing to the public for their prayers, good thoughts and also if you can possibly make a donation to help this family keep afloat.  They run a family business and at this time everything has come to a halt.

I am requesting all my friends, associates, people in the reptile industry,  trailer mechanics and the general public to mobilize and help spread the word about this campaign to aid in keeping his family afloat while they go through this terrible time in their lives.

I desperately need all your help to spread the word and use the internet to generate the attention for this campaign.  I am literally begging that the universe help save Rob's life and short of that at least take care of the family financially.

I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read and aid this family to stabilize their financial lives so that they can focus on aiding in Rob's recovery.  What ever funds raised through the donations used for expenses that is left over will be donated to Medical Centre for research in Flesh Eating Disease.

An update on Rob Erke and WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT SO FAR about the FLESH EATING DISEASE.

My wife and I traveled back to Vancouver to visit Rob and see how he was doing after being released from hospital. At this time, he had a nurse come in to change his dressing and see how he was doing, at that time he was still hooked up to an IV, which has now been removed. He is at home waiting to get word that he can start doing some rehab and has been itching to get back to work to support his family and to keep his business going. His spirit is high and has been keeping a very positive attitude with all that has happened. In fact the nurses will tell you that they were shocked that he was joking around and saying crazy things to keep everyone positive.

What he have learnt is that the flesh eating disease seem to have spread all on the left side of his body. The reason I mention this is that he had had shoulder surgery and left knee surgery years ago and it seems like the flesh eating disease started from his shoulder and worked its way down the left side of his body.
We know that flesh eating disease generally attacks when the immune system is down. We suspect that the flesh eating disease went for the weaker side of the body and spread to other areas of his left side which is the only side of his body that had had surgery in the past.
Did this bacteria enter the body while surgery was conducted and laid dormant within his joints and when his immune system was compromised the bacteria started to spread? We are not sure, but we are putting 1 + 1 together and it is something that we believe should be investigated thoroughly. We know hospitals have had issues with spread of bacteria and viruses, could that be the possibility? That is something I would love to see investigated.
The other thing for men to know is that flesh eating disease is generally found in the groin area of most men. If one feels anything out of the ordinary, then I would definitely make sure you get checked out quickly.
Flesh eating disease is on the increase in B.C. as well as other parts of Canada, I believe the health centers of CDC needs to investigate the possibility of this being an issue and public should be warned about the possibilities of this occurring.
Rob is resting up and preparing himself for a long grueling rehab to hopefully regain the use of his left arm, which is needed for the business that he is in.
I am appealing to the general public to donate and give whatever you can to this campaign so that he can focus all of his efforts into rehabbing is left arm and hopefully be able to keep his business going and the family does not face financial ruin.
At this time friends and young people that they have aided in the past are pitching in to try and keep his business afloat so that he does not lose his clientele base.
I would like to give a shout to a gentleman by the name of Jag, works a full time job and once he gets off work from his regular job, comes over to do another shift to help Rob keep his business going. Jag you are a rock and much respect for stepping up. It has been duly noted how great a job you have done helping Rob and family. My heartfelt thanks to you and all those who have kept Rob on their minds and the well wishes has received has been unbelievable.
Please contribute what you can and thanks again.

Rob finally got awesome good news! Being released from hospital-jail this weekend!! Doctors are happy with skin graph from thigh to shoulder. He's gonna have some sexy looking scares.
It's been a long 3 weeks for this family man and he has a personal message to everyone, " THANK YOU EVERYONE for ALL THEIR THOUGHTS and WISHES. It helped a lot going thru this. AGAIN to ALL, MANY THANKS, REALLY APPRECIATE IT."

Rob is a very lucky man, that the doctors were able to cut away the diseased tissues and stopped to spreading of the Flesh Eating Disease. This family still need our help in getting them through the healing, recovery and rehab process and the unknown of weather he'd be able to work his previous job or not.

Please continue your support by sharing this Go Fund Me campaign.

Rob got the all clear sign this week with the spreading of the flesh eating disease which is great news. He will remain in hospital for the next 3/4 days or so before being released from hospital. He got his skin graph done on his shoulder and has a pump drawing out the toxins from the wound.
He has a long road of physiotherapy ahead of him and may or may not have to change professions. I am appealing to the public to help this family out financially so that they can focus on Rob’s recovery from this horrible disease. Thanks in advance.

Rob received the all clear on all the culture tests, etc. Got the skin graph on his shoulder today ... now have to wait 5 days to see if graph takes. Knee is fine and heart is awesome, nothing from the disease on it. Wow, sounds like Rob dodged a bullet! One day at a time ... Rob is keeping a great attitude and is extremely happy to get a second chance in life! Hate to see bad things happen to good people, but that has passed and we all look forward to his healing and recovery. Hopefully, he'll be out of the hospital on July 28th. Then it'll be on to physiotherapy.
