Help Rina Receive Better Care

For anyone who knows Karla Yepez personally, you know she is a wonderful person who works hard for everything in her life, always gives and never takes. All of this, she has learned from her mother, Rina Villamarin. Rina has been battling a mystery illness for the last year and over the weekend things took a turn for the worse. Rina was admitted to a hospital in Quito, Ecuador.  As her kidneys had failed and she spiked a fever of 108, she was no longer able to care for herself. The doctors now believe she is suffering from a severe case of Lupus -  she is receiving 3+ blood transfusions per day and minimal medication due to the lack of insurance coverage. Her family  members were forced to leave the hospital and buy medication and syringes of their own to give to the medical staff at the hospital as they could not provide more than the equivalent of aspirin due to the finances allotted to this level of hospital. Lupus is an horrific auto-immune disease that targets the skin, joints, kidneys, blood and other organs. With good healthcare, early diagnosis and the proper medication, Lupus can have a high survival rate in developed countries such as Canada, but in countries without the benefit of our extensive healthcare, the diagnosis, treatment and outcome are nowhere close to ours. I am asking anyone that is able, to consider donating to the family in their time of need. The money collected will go towards the necessary medication needed to improve Rina’s condition, further diagnostic testing, and hopefully transferring Rina to a privately funded hospital in hopes of better care.
