Help Restore The Shake Rag Grounds!

In August of this year (2016), in a matter of two weeks, we experienced three different downpours that caused the most significant damage the paths have seen in years; damage that caused us to close doors to visitors until we could get repairs in place.  We’ve patched things up as best as we can but a long term solution is needed and we are working with city officials, local contractors and the community to ensure we don’t see another summer of destruction here on our magical little campus. This project will:

·      Re-landscape affected gardens and paths to prevent future storm damage.
·      Rebuild deteriorating bridges.
·      Make our campus safe and beautiful again for the public.
·      Ensure that we can continue to be a draw for hundreds of students, lodgers and tourists.

Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts in Mineral Point, WI is a creative mecca for visitors from all over, an economic engine for our region and a community asset. Shake Rag Alley is a non-profit art school, hosting close to 200 workshops a year for adults, and a boisterous summer program for kids that offers about 40 classes. We are turning to the community for support; to help us offset the costs of repairs that have already taken place, and the larger landscaping project in front of us. Our goal is to have this money raised and the project complete by the end of the year.

Spring is officially upon us and it is time to get started on finishing up the Pathway Restoration project! Including offline donations we are just about halfway to our goal! We came a long way in the fall but we still have much to do to finish the project:

-The top most bridge on campus still needs a permanent deck and rail replaced.
-We need to replace the bricks in the path that washed away in the rain.
-Rock walls need to be re-aligned.
-Garden beds need to be re-formed.
-The grass needs to be replanted or sodded in the areas that equipment was required for repairs.
-Lining the streambed with shale rock and grass seeding.

We’ll get started on the remainder of the work as soon as we can! Meanwhile-we still need your help raising the rest of the money to complete this project! Please donate what you can to help us get this place looking as magical as we know it can! If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact us! And of course, a huge thanks to our friends who have supported this project!

Our fundraiser to raise money to restore the paths of Shake Rag Alley has raised $7,287 so far, including offline donations. Though the winter weather has put the remainder of the project on hold, we need to keep raising money to help cover the bills coming in and bills to come! We’re so excited to have a safe and accessible campus come spring, but the work isn’t quite done yet. Come spring we need to finish up; replanting in the newly landscaped areas, finish rebuilding the two bridges and if we raise enough money, we’d like to replace some of the brick pathways that were washed away last summer.

We hope you’ll come visit us in 2017 and check out the new landscaping. Come for a workshop or event, or simply to take a stroll around our magical campus, we’d love to see you! We will continue accepting donations for this campaign until we meet all expenses. Would you consider making a contribution? Contributions of all sizes are so appreciated. We appreciate the continued support!

Shake Rag Alley brings great art instruction in a beautiful art inspiring setting with lovely historical surroundings (and terrific shops!). Wish I could give more but a little donation is better than no donation. We must all give what we can. SRA gives us a wonderful escape and a lovely home away from home!
