VHSCollector.com

For the past 10 years, I've been involved in a project to catalog and scan the covers of video cassettes and other obsolete home video formats from the last 50 years. In addition to the valuable pool of data we've gathered over the years, the website allows collectors to track their collections, contribute content of their own, and it serves as a platform where collectors connect with other fellow collectors. Recently, we just launched the latest version of our project - VHSCollector.com 2.0. Despite the excitement surrounding this launch, conflicts with our previous developers left the project unfinished in parts. We desperately need your help to finish this project so that users can once again work together to preserve the history of home video!

The work we need completed:

1) News / Articles / Reviews (NOW COMPLETED. THANKS DONORS!)

We had to put these on the back burner in order to give priority to the database. Funds will help us finish the designing and implementation of these pages so that we can continue to share some incredibly insightful articles on home video history. During the development of the new website, I have been researching and writing articles on various aspects of home video history. I'm anxious to share them with you all.

2) Moderation System

Without the data, we don't have an archive. Currently, new submissions to the site are suspended due to our new and improved moderation system having not been completed. We have many collectors, film fans, and historians waiting to submit to our large pool of data. This is a crucial feature that will allow us to continue documenting, cataloging and preserving the history of home video.

3) Forums

As with all online communities, it's important that we have a platform to discuss those things important to us about home video and its history. We will be using a powerful 3rd party bulletin system this time around. Not only does using this software have a price, it will also cost us to have the software integrated into VHSCollector.com and configured. Software alone costs between $250-400.

4) Miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks

We have a long list of small bug fixes and tweaks we must address. Although not as crucial as the above points, completing these will greatly improve the VHSCollector.com experience. A few of these include fixing incorrect sorting on tables, completing the "Daily Cover Rewind" feature, and many more.

If we do not reach our goal, we will attack the most important points first, in the order that they're listed above. Please remember that using the affiliate links on our website (Amazon and eBay) generate a small commission for the website that also goes towards development and hosting. Every little bit helps!

Because of the donations we've had so far, I was able to get the articles system fixed, and in the past two weeks, I've written 16 VHS reviews, starting with my very first video review from over 10 years ago, "Attack of the Killer Refrigerator." There are still a few tweaks to be made, but its been working great so far. Check out the new articles page below!

Next up, working out the moderation system. Keep those donations coming so we can accomplish this next goal! :)

I hope everyone's new year is off to a great start!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank the few of you who've donated so far. Because of these generous contributions, we've been able to hire a developer to bring articles and reviews back to the site. You might have already noticed some of the test articles and reviews currently on the site. This feature should be finished either today or tomorrow, which at that point, I'll start the long task of re-entering past articles and reviews on the site. I've also written some fresh articles on the topic of home video history. Keep a look out!

Upon finishing the articles and reviews feature, we'll begin work on our moderation system - a much needed feature which will allow us to reopen submissions. Following this, we have a long list of bug fixes, tweaks and a few other features we need to implement (such as forums and Daily Cover Rewind). This means we'll still need to raise funds. With that said, please consider donating yourself (if you haven't already) or sharing our campaign with others.

Thanks again!
