This past November I submitted a proposal to the International Enneagram Association and I am thrilled to announce that my proposal has been accepted and I will be presenting at this year’s International Enneagram Association Conference  in Oakland, CA. The Conference is July 25th-28th 2019 and is the largest yearly Enneagram event in the world.

My presentation, “Queering the Enneagram: LGBTQIA Inclusion in the Enneagram Community,” will help educate teachers and enthusiasts from all over the world on the need for including and lifting up Queer voices in our work with this system. This work is deeply important to me and I am honored that the IEA has taken such a strong interest in it as well.

I am so insanely excited for this opportunity and simultaneously acutely aware of the financial burden accepting this opportunity places on me and my family. My partner and I are hoping to travel together and the total cost for the trip is over $3,000.

Here’s the breakdown of the cost of the trip for us:

My Conference Registration (discounted for presenters)
$495
My Partner’s Conference Registration:
$875
Hotel Stay (3 Nights at Group Rate):
$537
Airfair:
$600
Food (2 people, 4 days):
$480
Transportation:
$200

I’ve been saving what I can since submitting the proposal to make this happen, so we’re only looking to raise $2,500 which will cover the remaining costs and the processing fees.

Your support is so greatly appreciated! We’ve even been putting together some fun stuff for people who donate! Stay tuned for more info on that!

He y’all! I wanted to drop a quick update first of all to say thank you, and secondly to share more about my presentation with you. For those who are interested, this is the proposal I submitted and the basic description of the workshop I’ll be presenting at the IEA Global Conference this summer. Enjoy!

The Enneagram as a system is capable of deeply shifting culture and has the potential to change the way we experience our world both personally and collectively. The is also true of those in the LGBTQIA community, given their perspective on and experience of dominant culture. By promoting the intersection of these communities, I will provide the greater Enneagram community with the valuable insight needed in order to effect positive change personally, relationally, and globally.

The LGBTQIA community has many powerful gifts to offer the Enneagram community. Because of the nature of queerness, members of the LGBTQIA community have developed an unparalleled capacity for self-awareness, have a unique perspective on dominant culture, and a particularly embodied experience of their lives. These gifts position the queer community to be a powerful voice in the study and application of the Enneagram. For these gifts to be received, the Enneagram community must invite LGBTQIA voices in and listen to their story.

The goal of this workshop is to promote and expand the inclusiveness of the Enneagram community. I will accomplish this by educating participants on the queer experience, giving examples of how to teach the system in ways that are more accessible to the LGBTQIA community, and giving participants actionable steps for lifting up queer voices. Participants can expect to leave this workshop encouraged and prepared to effectively support the LGBTQIA community, and in turn, help the Enneagram community broaden it’s perspective, voice, and impact.

The workshop will be presented in three sections: Education, Exploration, and Activation. We will first focus on educating participants on the gifts the LGBTQIA community has to offer in three main areas: depth of self-awareness, perspective on dominant culture, and embodied living. Then participants will be given the opportunity to explore their personal experiences and larger cultural attitudes surrounding the LGBTQIA community in order to better understand the lens through which they see these issues. Finally, participants will be given a set of tools for effectively supporting the queer community and bringing their voices into the greater conversation around the Enneagram.

During this workshop we will use the skills we’ve developed as Enneagram enthusiasts to examine how we think about the system and explore ways we can shift to be more inclusive of our LGBTQIA siblings. Drawing on my experience as a yoga therapist, I will lead participants through movement, breath, and meditations exercises to facilitate open and honest exploration and help them digest the experience. By sharing my own experience as a gender and sexual minority and stories of other queer Enneagram enthusiasts, I will offer participants the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and compassion for the LGBTQIA community.

Lilla Watson wrote, “If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” It is my hope that through this workshop our communities can learn to better work together for our mutual liberation.
