Who is Precious?
Precious is the kindest, most loving, giving, happy, friendly and sweet 16 year old rescue dog and she is the best, most loyal friend I have ever had...(I know that everybody thinks their dog is the best dog in the world but I think mine really is..)
Precious was 1.5 years old when I rescued her at the Mayhew Animal home in North West London. Precious, or 'Presh' as we call her, had a rough start in life, she'd been mistreated at her first home which left her afraid of men and sometimes she would get so scared she would wet herself. I spent the next few months slowly building her trust and confidence and finally we developed a deep love, understanding and trust for each other. A love that has endured over the 15 years since...
Over the years this dog has nursed me through break ups, heart ache, illness and some really tough times...And all she's ever asked for in return was a walk. It's her favourite thing to do in the world. Even at 16 the sound of a lead jangling still get's her jumping and spinning around in excitement!
The fact that Presh is so healthy at 16 years old is a miracle. She has no sight or hearing loss (which is unheard of for a dog her age) and other than the injury to her leg she is in excellent physical health. In fact she is so healthy for her age that a dog magazine have asked to do an interview & shoot with her, to discuss how I've kept her so healthy to such an old age. Unfortunately I was forced to postpone her magazine shoot after her injury, but if we can raise the funds for the corrective surgery she needs then it could be a wonderful way to celebrate!
The injury
In early December precious jumped down from the sofa awkwardly and began limping and yelping in pain. We rushed her to our vet who mis-diagnosed her as having a shoulder injury and advised us to just take her home & manage her pain until it healed.
Unfortunately the vet was wrong and the injury was in fact a messy break in her lower leg. But due to the misdiagnosis the leg had healed fused in a bent position. To cut a very long (and expensive) story short the vet then attempted to cover up his mistake by telling us that she had osteoarthritis and a severe heart murmur and advised us to put her to sleep. We were devastated...
Thankfully something in my gut told me to get a second opinion....Our new vet examined Presh thoroughly last week and found her to be in EXCELLENT health (other than the badly broken leg of course) He could find no signs of a heart murmur OR osteoarthritis which means she is an excellent candidate for surgery!
So now we are waiting for an appointment with a specialist ortho surgeon, but we've already racked up a huge bill with all the appointments & X rays so far and our new vet has just given us a ballpark figure of £4K for her surgery, medication, physiotherapy , check ups & aftercare.
Precious was not insured at the time of her accident, so all the costs are being put on our credit cards. We don't have much, but not getting her the surgery she needs is simply not an option. We want to do everything in our power to help her walk again. Which is why we are appealing for help to fund the cost of her treatment.
So we would appreciate any donations, no matter how small, to help us get Precious walking again...It's heartbreaking to watch her suffer and she hates getting left behind on her own when we take the rest of the pack for walks. Up until her accident she was a fit and active dog, but the lack of exercise is making her more and more depressed & unfit every day.
So please please help us make our dream come true and get her out walking again.

PLEASE NOTE!!! if we raise more funds than needed for her treatment I'll be treating precious to a nice new bed and the rest will be donated to the Mathew Animal Home where I rescued her from 15 years ago.
