Help pay for Family Expenses for Joseph Gallardo

Donation protected
We are raising funds to help out the family of our good friend Joesph Gallardo.

He went into Castleview Hospital on November 20th to have emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix. We were told by the nurses that the doctor might have nipped his colon during surgery but was unsure. He started having complications and began vomiting blood. They then thought they might have nipped an artery instead. At that point, the decision was to perform a second surgery. They did a flush and put a drain tube in during that surgery.

He had two emergency surgeries and spent a total of 7 days at Castleview. He was then told he was being discharged because the doctor couldn't give an explanation to the insurance company for why they were keeping him in the hospital. Which didn't make sense because the infection was still not under control. Joseph wasn't ready or healed enough to go home.

In less than 24 hours, he was rushed back to the Castleview Hospital fighting for his life. The three incisions on his abdomen had abscessed and he was filling with infection. His diabetic and blood pressure medications along with medicine given to him in the hospital cause complications. This led to his blood pressure dangerously dropping and his liver to stop producing sugar. In the eight hours he was there they had resuscitated him twice because of his blood pressure dropping to bring him back. They then ordered him to be transferred to Utah Valley Regional Hospital even though they were unable to stabilize him. During the ambulance ride they had to resuscitate him for a third time but this time it was for 40 minutes. Upon arrival to Utah Valley Regional we were informed of the 40-minute resuscitation and that now also more than likely he would have significant brain damage.

Once put into Utah Valley ICU, he was on almost full life support. The abscessed incisions had his stomach filled with infection and had to be drained immediately before it spread to his heart. He got Pneumonia in his lungs which made them fill with fluid. He needed 2 machines for his lungs. One to help open and expand the lungs and then an oxygen machine that was breathing for him 90 percent. His liver stopped making sugar and his kidneys were failing. He was also put on a dialysis machine. He was hooked to an EKG machine and had eight different medications intravenously going through him.  Lastly, he was hooked to a cooling machine to keep his temperature at 34 degrees to protect his brain and organs from further damage from the 40-minute resuscitation. The only thing barely working on its own was his heart.

After three days of fighting at Utah Valley Regional, early morning December 2nd his blood pressure could no longer be stabilized and Joseph past at 2:14 a.m.

All this sadness and heartache started with a ruptured appendix and great uncertainty.

We are raising this money to help pay for his cremation and funeral cost. Any contribution will help greatly. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
