Help Paula get to college

Donation protected
Hello my name is Paula Whitehead I’m a second year health science major on a premed track. After college I plan on going on to become a trauma surgeon and start a nonprofit teaching communities with health disparities basic to complex medical care. The reason I am trying to raise money is to get everything I need to get to school. I started at Spelman, which is $53,000 a year which is not financially feasible. I am transferring out to a school in London. I am using the term transfer loosely as none of the credits transfer and I’ll be a first year. The school in London is called the university of east London and it only cost $11,680.  I am now fully enrolled at Uel. One reason I am transferring to this particular school is because I am lucky enough to get a scholarship, basketball and academic, and their biomedical program better aligns with what I want to do with my future. The health science program at Spelman is fairly new and is run as such. The money I raise here will fund my visas, plane tickets, rent, and basic nessities throughout my time there. The visa comes with mandatory health insurance so it totals out around $800 but only has to be paid once. The visa itself cost about $400. I also have to get my biometrics done and have a visa interview which is two hours away from where I live all of this out of pocket. Rent comes to about $7,000 for the school year plus $3,000 if I stay for the summer. My loans will cover most of the rent I just have to pay the deposit of £250 and advanced rent of £500. The plane tickets start at $400 out of New York but that is without standard seating, no checked bags, two to three lay overs, and no meal at all. I would also have to fly to New York as well as get another suitcase because I only have one. I cannot fly with any dorm necessities because it would cost more so I also have to buy that there. The good thing about that is I can buy a storage unit and keep that there as well. I do not have a laptop of any kind. This would not effect me as much but the school gives online books for free and so me not having a laptop or tablet of any kind is also a hindrance This particular school has a meal plan but from every person I’ve talked to they’ve told me it’s not worth the money or time it gets you to walk over there so I will be buying my own food. This will also cover some of my bus fare as I will live on one campus but learn in another. I also cannot get a job which is apart of my visa stipulations. This school does accept fafsa but it takes a month to kick in and in that time I have to relay on this money and the money my mother has. I need much more that $1,500, $5,000 to be exact, but people donate more when there’s less to be given. At the end of the day this school is still much cheaper than Spelman and better aligns with what I want to do. This is also the school that I chose to continue my education at. Yes, there are much cheaper schools in the states but that’s not where I wanna be nor what I wanna do.  Thank you for getting all the way to the bottom you are under no obligation to share or donate but it would’ve taken you less time to share than read all of this. Also if you’re uncomfortable donating to go fund me for any reason my PayPal link is https://www.paypal.me/Paulaellaine.

Thank You

(1) why do you need this if you have two scholarships?

If I cannot get to the school itself the scholarship means nothing and I took money and a spot from another student. Also the name of the campaign is “get paula to college” and that’s what I am trying to do.

 (2) why don’t you take out loans?

Loans have been taken out they do not cover the whole cost. They also only cover tuition and rent.

(3) why don’t you just go to a cheap American school.

I have worked hard every step of the way to get where I want to go and the final destination is Uel. I’m tired of having to give up my dreams simply because I can’t afford them.

(4) why don’t you get a job?

I constantly volunteer and there are not at lot of jobs hiring where I am from. I also have little to no work experience as I was in multiple clubs, extra curriculars, and volunteering positions to get scholarships.

(5) why should I donate to you?

You don’t have to donate but a share goes a long way.

(6) what about the people who need it more.

Please donate and share their stories too. In this day and age we cannot only see one issue.

Just some more information about me. I am from Houston, Texas. I graduated from diboll high school. I was in the top quarter of my class, in numerous clubs, two sport varsity, a member of girl scouts and four H, over a hundred voulenteer hours my senior year, and a licensed CNA. I plan on becoming a trauma surgeon and opening a nonprofit that teaches high risk areas basic to complex medical procedures. I sadly cannot do this because I can’t afford it but a simple share or donation can help a lot.
