Please Help Patrick Get Treatment

A cold spring weekend in 2014, 6 month old Patrick’s number had come up and he found himself on the “list” for that weekend. A weekend he would never see the other side of. Rescues shared his picture as a 911 and a foster was found, that late Friday afternoon. They wouldn’t know if their hold would be honored or if he would stay on the list due to clerical or some other error. Something they were chillingly, all too familiar with.

It was the warmest, sunniest Tuesday in spring, when Patrick, exhausted from doing laps in his own backyard, slept for the first time in his life, in a warm home. Patrick’s foster mom had never met a more, shall we say, “spirited”, dog in her life, or one more difficult to house train. She gave him a (MANY) brake though, everything was “outside” simply because he never knew what an “inside” was. Patrick had the undisputed, worst habits of any dog, past or present, but also the best and most loving heart they had ever seen.

That November in 2014, Patrick saved his foster mom’s life. His foster mom has a neurological condition and after taking a nasty fall (which later tests revealed a skull fracture) Patrick kept his mom semi conscious until she could get help. For 9 intense hours.

Needless to say, foster soon became forever and Patrick went on to foster about 30 more pibbles either on their way to forever homes, or as a medical recovery layover.

During the last 5 years, Patrick has become a treasured family member and his forever mom (whom if you ask her will tell you he is her flesh and blood son - I wouldn’t argue with her), runs his semi serious, tongue in cheek Facebook page; Patrick the Pibble. Sharing his antics, charm and most importantly, his big heart with the best followers Facebook has; Patrick has been introducing, promoting and educating people on this truly misunderstood group of loving goofballs.

Late 2018 - at just 5 years young - Patrick’s mom noticed a large lump on the inside of his back leg, was taken to the vet, where he had tests, X-rays and pain meds, even though he wasn’t limping. Being the good boy his is, Patrick never acted like he was in pain, that was until he found out what not being in pain feels like.

His vet, who not only has patiently told his mom to stop overreacting at least 5 times, has delivered the luckiest scenario we could think of; Patrick has arthritis in his knee and hip, his knee cap isn’t where it’s supposed to be, it’s manageable, but he is in pain. Surgery isn’t recommended at this time, something his (non-overreacting - completely rational - not embarrassing at all) mom learned at the second surgeons opinion, but knee injections and joint supplements are.

We couldn’t be more grateful that Patrick has a manageable condition, but our hearts break at the though of him being in pain and are asking for help with his treatment. Patrick’s parents had to use their savings for his visits, X-rays, and first supplements; even choosing to make their Christmas presents, just in case of bad news.

While resourceful, their fear is not being able to afford and thus delay; Patrick’s treatment and are asking for help to cover his vet visits and costs. They hope to raise $1,500 to help cover one year of Patrick’s  injections at Beach Park Animal Hospital in Illinois and joint supplements for the rest of the year.

Please help us get Patrick the treatment he needs, every dollar counts and every share is a step closer.

From the bottom of ours and Patrick’s, hearts; thank you.
