The Karuhije family is walking through an unimaginably difficult journey; and we need your help in rallying around them as Patrick fights off a brain tumour for a second time in less than a year!
A Family
Patrick and his wife Theresa are raising their four young children in Calgary, Alberta; where he is a pastor. Patrick is an incredible father to their two sons and twin daughters. Anyone who has had the privilege of meeting Patrick knows that he is a man of faith and integrity. He is kind, generous, loyal and always willing to take time for anyone who needs him.
On October 1st, 2018, the Karuhije’s world was turned upside down when Patrick, at 38 years of age, collapsed and was then diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma. He had to undergo emergency surgery in order to remove the malignant tumour that was on his brain stem. After nearly 6-weeks of recovery and rehabilitation in the hospital, he was able to return home to his family. Life was amazing and better than ever; and the Karuhije family was making up for lost time.
Unexpectedly, a recent MRI has shown that the tumour has returned. Although they were made aware that recurrence was likely, it was supposed to be slow growing, and was not expected so quickly. At this time, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are no longer options.
Patrick and Theresa have had to find medical care out of the country with doctors who are pioneering new and successful treatments. Based on the many stories of healing, they are very hopeful. Unfortunately, these consults, tests, medications and other recommendations are costly, and NOT covered by health care and insurance.
The Costs
The new cancer treatments alone are costing the family thousands of dollars out-of-pocket each month; and their American medical appointments are over and above that. Patrick has applied for long-term disability; so as you can imagine, the financial burden is building, and this family needs our help.
How you can Help
The Karuhije’s have always risen up to help others in times of need. As their friends and family, let’s pull together to bless them abundantly! Hopefully easing some of the stress and financial pressure they are currently facing, so they can focus on getting Patrick every possible opportunity to overcome this disease.
