Help out the Pope's

Donation protected
John and Emma Pope have been together for some 19 years and are the proud parents of Joshua (17), Emilie (15), Benjamin (13), Isabelle (10) and Samuel (9). John has always worked hard to provide for his family including being a soldier in the British army with active service in Northern Ireland.

John and his family moved from the United Kingdom to Australia in September of 2017 to provide their children with greater opportunities and to explore the great outdoors. The plan was for John to continue to work as an outdoor sports instructor and for Emma to continue her work as a social worker.

Shortly after arriving in Australia, at the age of 52, John was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Stage 4 cancer.

John's wife and five children supported him as he underwent a surgical resection in March 2018 and then started radiotherapy and chemotherapy 6 weeks.  In addition, John was provided with dexamethasone (steroids) to reduce the swelling around the tumour and must recently, John has been having chemotherapy.

John has been advised by his treating team that he is eligible for a clinical trial which is likely to greatly increase his quality of life and the time he will be able to spend with his wife and children. The name of this treatment is Avastin and is is not available on Medicare.  Avastin is approved in the US and in parts of the EU for treating Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). It has been approved for use here for other forms of cancer but not yet for GBM. The drug is administered intravenously and works on reducing the blood flow to the tumour and therefore reducing the growth of the tumour. The cost of the three month treatment plan is $21,000, a cost vastly beyond that which can covered by the Pope family. Should John receive this treatment for three months and it be successful, his ongoing treatment will be funded directly by the drug company.

The Pope family need your help. Donations to this cause will be aid Emma and John in funding this life changing treatment. $21,000 is the goal. Should this amount not be raised in total, and the Pope family not be able to afford the treatment, the money will be used to fund a trip for the family to Great Barrier Reef or for John to return home to visit his family. The money could also be used posthumously in order to fulfill Johns wish to be reunited with his mum in the uk, with his dad in the war cemetary in Holland or to have his ashes scattered off the top of a mountain.

Any donations are welcome, small or large, and will be sincerely appreciated.
