Help Our Game Dev Dreams Come True

Raising money for the cost of a lawyer.

My son Jonathan, who is now 15yrs old, is a programmer. Using only youtube and google, he started teaching himself coding languages at the age of 9. It is his passion.
A couple of years ago he asked if I would help him start his first company, a video game studio. I had run a couple small businesses in the past as well as had some experience in the entertainment industry. Knowing how hard he was working towards his life goals as well as having a fondness for video games myself, it was an easy decision to become his partner.
We've been at it for a little while now and have successfully released a few games to PC. We recently expanded our team and have started to work in Virtual Reality, creating a full game for the Oculus Rift. Development has gone really well and we are very excited to be working in this new and growing medium. A few weeks ago, we were invited to apply for the GameFounders mentor and investment program. Who they are and what they do can be found at gamefounders.com (link below)
But to get the main points here, I copy/pasted their FAQ:

1.Tell me what exactly is GameFounders?
GameFounders is a global startup accelerator program that focuses solely on game studios and start-ups.

2.What is in your program?
The program is 3 months long and provides mentoring for your team to improve their business and game quality skills by over 60 top industry mentors, weekly pitch practice, playtesting, field trips to successful game studios and at the end of the program, demo days where you will get the chance to pitch to our global network of investors and publishers.

3.What do you mean by accelerator, what are you accelerating?
It’s our goal to develop your studio’s skills and solve more problems through our 3-month program than you would do by yourself in a year or more. We will give you access to resources that you might never be able to get by yourselves.

4.What’s all this about a Mentoring program?
The mentoring is carried out by our pool of 150 experts drawn from the games industry and covers all aspects of game development including but not limited to: user acquisition, monetization, UI design, launch marketing, technical optimization, business models and choosing the right platform. Each program is tailored to the studios involved, and you will typically get mentorship from 60 mentors in a program.

Soooooo....they invest in your company and provide mentoring and training for everything related to the business side of the gaming industry.
The network we would build and the training we would gain from this experience, would greatly help the company my son and I have started to be successful for years to come.
It even includes showcasing our game at GDC 2017.
Just being accepted into this program is pretty surreal.
Well this morning I recieved an email from gamefounders, informing us that we have been selected. Now we just need to get there....

And this is where we run into a problem.
A few years back I got into some legal trouble that led to being placed on probation.
For us to be able to attend this program, I need to file a court motion to travel outside the US.
I've spent the entire day on the phone with several lawyers..the low average to hire a lawyer for this purpose is $2500.00
The mentor program begins in January. For me to have the motion filed and go before the judge in time, I need to file it immediately. I simply have no way to raise the money nor do I have enough time to make that money at work.
I've never been one to let my past hold me back and I can't allow it to hold my son's future back either.
I've reached out to immediate friends and family, but this being Christmas, none of them are capable of coming up with the money in time either.
My wife thought maybe I should try GoFundMe. I've never considered using a site like this...but for the sake of my son and the company we have started together, it's worth a shot.
I'm asking you...complete strangers of the interwebs....please help us.
As soon as I can raise the $2500, I have a lawyer ready to file the motion immediately.
