Help Our Third Grade Classes Go On A Field Trip!
Jensen Academy is an elementary school on the West Side of Chicago, and this has been a long and challenging year for the students in third grade where my wife Samantha teaches. She and her colleagues are hoping to take all of the classes on a special field trip. This year they did a Social Studies unit about Chicago landmarks and architecture, and the teachers thought that taking the kids on a Chicago Architecture Tour and downtown tour would be a great experience for them to see what they learned about in class. Most of these children rarely leave their neighborhood, and to see and experience the heart of the city they call home would be a great day they would remember for a long time. The problem is that there is no funding for field trips, not even a bus. Every field trip these kids go on is paid for by the students themselves, and this one would be expensive, too expensive for some. A big day to remember might not solve everything, but it would be exactly that, a fun day where they get to enjoy some of the sights, sounds, and adventures of their own city and create memories to take with them into the summer. Your help with this would mean a lot to me, to Samantha, to her colleagues, but especially to these young children who don't get opportunities to be thankful as often as they should.
Your donations would help cover the per child cost of $40 - $25 for the bus to downtown and the trolley tour, and $15 for lunch at Rainforest Cafe. There are 90 students in total, so our goal is $3600. If we can raise more, we can make the day even better! The trip is June 14, but we have to have the money in by Tuesday May 21st. So let's get going! All of your help is so very much appreciated!!!
REWARDS: Every donor will receive a Thank You card decorated by one of the students. These will be sent after the trip so the students can include something about the trip in their cards. THANK YOU!
