Help our friends Fernanda & Dustin

$15,036 of $25,000 goal

Since 2009, our beloved friends Fernanda and Dustin Paulsen have been stewards of a beautiful piece of land on Pohoiki road on the Big Island of Hawaii. Over the years they turned the raw and rugged land  into an abundant off grid homestead with farm animals, orchards, gardens, bee hives and a home that they  built with their own hands. They have two beautiful daughters Anabella and Yara (5 and 3).

On Saturday May 19, 2018 the lava river from the recent Leilani eruption covered their land and home. The hundreds of  hours spent tending to their gardens and fruit trees have been burned and buried by black earth.

My name is Melina and I meet Fernanda 9 years ago when we both came to Hawai'i for the first time to do a volunteer program. We both decided to stay in Hawai'i and start a new life here. It was then when she met her  husband Dustin. We have been friends ever since and I love them both to pieces. Over the years, I have been a witness of the ever growing love and dedication towards eachother, their home and their two girls.

"Today the lava flow took our farm and our home! It is so hard to believe... Almost 10 years of sweat and tears vanished and covered with lava! I pray for acceptance, I pray for clarity and I pray we can rise from the ashes like the Phoenix! I’m so heartbroken.... My husband was there and he was able to see it with his own eyes... please hold us tight in your hearts as we navigate through this hard time! My dear friend set up a gofund account to help us get by this intense period, please consider donating if you can, our financial options are very limited, we appreciate all the help and love coming our way! Mahalo from the bottom of our hearts! Aloha!"

While this money will not get their homestead back, it will at least help them with their immediate expenses. They will use this money to rent a house so their family can be together which will require a deposit, first and last month's rent. They still have to make mortgage payments on the land so this money will help with that as well (they did not have insurance on their house). They can also use some of this money as a down payment for a new piece of land. This money will be deposited directly on Fernanda's bank account and she will be able to withdraw from it as soon as a donation is made.

Please consider donating to help this young family get back on their feet.

Thank you so much in advance for your support. To help me get the word out, you can share my link to your Facebook Timeline.

Aloha!

"You have to be strong enough to be weak... Allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling. Notice any labels you attach to crying or feeling vulnerable. Let go of the labels. Just feel what you are feeling, all the while cultivating moment-to-moment awareness, riding the waves of “up” and “down,” “good” and “bad,” “weak” and “strong,” until you see that they are all inadequate to fully describe your experience. Be with the experience itself. Trust in your deepest strength of all: to be present, to be wakeful. Again and again, I’m feeling the flow of love between myself and those around me. It’s uplifting and intoxicating; empowering and encouraging. It’s love like I have never seen it in action before—the type of love that can only be perfected in our very weaknesses... mahalo! Consider donating to our Go Fund Me. Share our story! Together we can make a difference! Aloha!"

Thank you all who have donated. Every little bit counts On Sunday May 20 Fernanda wrote: "Another very hard day for us as we made the decision to tell the girls what happened to our farm... the black smoke on the top left is our house burning! Oh boy... Bella my older daughter had a super hard time understanding why Pele took what she loved the most... she thought Pele loved her and all the work we did at her land! It got pretty intense, Bella has a fire of her own! After telling her that Pele did not took our land, she reclaimed what was once hers and it’s an honor to have her come(even though is freaking hard) we finish the conversation with her saying: well I really wish I could talk to her in person or maybe she doesn’t even exist, right? Oh dear Universe, please give me enough strength to hold space for my extra smart fire cracker sensitive daughter... Meanwhile I have no words to express how grateful we are for the outpouring of love that is coming our way! It’s really amazing to witness that our collective sense of community, tribe and village is still alive even though most of us don’t live like that anymore! Together we’re stronger! Thank you for all the donations, messages, phone calls, emails... I’m doing my very best to reply one by one! We really appreciate you all very much! We can feel the love and it’s amazing! Keep spreading our story and bringing awareness to our current situation! Consider donating to our Go Fund Me campaign, every little help counts! Mahalo! Much love and Aloha!"
