Help Norm

$11,950 of $5,500 goal

Jon Frickin Sterling  ERLANGER, KY
This is Norm.  Norm lives alone.  He is a Korean War veteran.  I met Norm 4 years ago and we bonded immediately.  Recently Norm's health has taken a turn.  He was diagnosed with dementia.  After a brief stay in the hospital the court awarded me guardianship of Norm.  I've applied for veteran benefits for Norm and looked for a suitable placement for him.  The good news is that between his Social Security benefits and new veteran benefits he can receive the care he needs.  The bad news is that it will cost $5500 to get him in the door.  Norm has no family to take care of him and I am determined to get him the help he needs.  I took Norm to see the facility and he is eager to move in.  If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.

In less than 24 hours https://www.gofundme.com/help-norm raised the donation I asked for to place Norm in the facility he liked which is close to my house and it continues to clime 6 days later. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU. I can't say it enough.

I also received a lot of cash donations outside the GoFundMe page, as well as card and letters, and am continuing to get them. Sue Rachford made Norm a pretty cool knit blanket I'll have to share.

To those I haven't had a chance to catch up with yet, and still want to help of pass on well wishes to Norm, you can stop by the Erlanger Police Department and speak to me or the clerk. If you want to send something by mail you can send it to "Norm" C/O Jon Sterling 505 Commonwealth Ave Erlanger KY 41018.

Thank you for helping me prove once again that there is more kindness in this world than there is hate.

Have an awesome frickin day!
THANK YOU!

I sent GoFundMe a message about me being both the one who has requested the donation and "technically" being the beneficiary since I am Norm's guardian. They replied almost immediately. The two things I need to add are as follows:

1- I will be with drawing the funds in my name.

2- I will be delivering the funds to Norm first by paying for the deposit and first months rent (Approximately $5500). Any added funds will be available to Norm for his health and other needs.

Thank you GoFundMe for the quick response and to all of you, Thanks again.

Norm should be eligible for VA healthcare and a monthly VA pension. I work for the VA and would be happy to help in helping him get enrolled if you have not already done so.

I have been in your shoes, Jon. God has blessed Norman by crossing your paths. I hope that you are being given legal advice by an elder attorney in KY. Norm is entitled to all benefits he qualifies for but, be careful that the donations are sheltered from being included in Norm's income. Too much money/income, and he could lose VA benefits. I hope he loves his new home. I pray his dementia is age related and not Alzheimer's. Best of luck to you both, and God bless you.
