Help Us Get A Home & Keep Us Safe
Hello, my name is Amber and I live in NY. I will will be 21 this summer. My mom raised my brother and me alone. She was a stay home mom who did daycare for awhile, and then went out of the home to work when we got older and went to school. She went to a good school for baking and pastry and she decorated cakes. It was hard for us because we never had much money, my mom had us in daycare when she worked and we weren't treated very well there. She started to get very stressed and she was kinda sick and had to go out of work on disability. Several years ago my mom got a blood clot in her leg from medicine the hospital gave her. She saw her doctor and got tested for a bunch of stuff and found out she has a mutation on her chromosome and it's a very rare disorder. This has caused her to have many health disorders. Because she can't work she was getting help through the state for rent. Two years ago the office of section 8 that was helping us illegally took away our funds and voucher. My mom took them to Supreme Court in our town and they were found guilty for what they did, but a bigger court must make sure that court ruled right. We cannot afford a lawyer to do the papers for that court. While trying to find a lawyer the owner of the house we were renting took us to the village small claims court, and the judge there said he had the right to rule over the Supreme Court. He didn't even know the rules of section 8 housing. He illegally evicted us and had all our stuff thrown out on the lawn! My mom and me have been trying to find a lawyer for 2 years to fight the judge that did this and the case in the city court. We have no family to help us and no home. My mom is getting more sick due to the situation and no one in the system is helping us. She has a service dog who is also sick with heart disease and she is so afraid to lose her. If we got help we could have a lawyer fight for us and get a home again. I could get my high school diploma, my licence and a job and start my life and help my mom. She would be able to rest and start to heal from what has been happening, and continue to be an advocate like she was doing for others. She still has been helping people while we have no place to live. We stay in the car and if she sees someone that may need something, she will always try to help them. She gives what she can even when we don't have much. My mom has never asked anything in return for what she does. We would be so grateful for help because we would be safe, could be clean and get healthy, could eat properly if we had a home again. My mom is now very anemic and almost diabetic because of all this, plus her other physical and other problems. We just want to have a life back to be "normal" again. We can't function to begin with and now it's very bad. Thank you for all who read this and for all who will help. We know how bad things are for everyone who is in the world. My mom prays every day for all. She says the world is a wonderful, beautiful place that has so much to give... if we just open our minds and eyes we will receive all it has. She says there is nothing wrong with the world, it's the people in it that have problems. The world doesn't need us.... we need it! She wishes that we all could help each other like people used to do "way back when...." because that's how it's supposed to be. "We all need each other and that's why we are here together" she says.
