Help My Mom Cover Her Medical Bills

In the last few weeks I learned my mother has a breast mass. She had been keeping it a secret not wanting to burden anyone. As the sole caregiver for my 85 year old grandmother, she felt there was no time to worry about herself. But the mass grew too big to ignore.
Once I found out, I immediately began the scramble to get her into the Breast Health Center and sign her up for financial aid (to no avail).
So far, she's had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, and the physician plans to excise the "highly suspicious and worrisome" lump before performing the biopsy to determine whether or not it is cancerous -he says to expect that it will be a positive result in his experience. If the biopsy is positive he will then go into the lymph nodes. All of this has happened so quickly and because the mass has been growing rapidly for awhile now the doctor wants to get it out immediately.
I am told this 60 minute procedure will cost anywhere from $17,000 to $30,000 (a deal because she is self pay!). Lord willing, this will be the end of it and she will not require radiation, chemo or mastectomy.
My mother has no insurance, is too young for medicare, and because she takes care of my live-in grandmother she doesn't qualify for financial assistance. I was shocked to learn that my grandma's pension counts toward the household income even though the money goes to cover her own medical expenses and round-the-clock care. My mom can't work because my grandmother can not be left alone for long so her only source of income is a few pet sitting jobs, hardly enough to cover her mounting medical bills.
Anyone who knows Kathy can attest that she is an incredibly strong woman who doesn't like asking for help (I get that from her) but everybody needs a little help now and then. My sister and I created this Go Fund Me to support our mom at this difficult time. We need her to continue being the strong vivacious mother and grandma the family needs and loves so much.
Even though it is a waiting game to know the severity of her condition, at least she can have some peace of mind knowing some of her medical costs are covered thanks to the generosity of friends and strangers.
