Rest in Peace, Bob Nemes

Dear Friends,
We're sad to announce the passing of Robert J. Nemes last Friday at 10:00am in Boca Grande. Thank you so much for your generous outpouring of love, support and monetary gifts. In the last few weeks, hospice came to his house and provided much needed support, grief counseling, and pain medicine. Bob passed in the company of his wife, Terry and his sister Joan Cook. His brother Ken and wife Carolyn Nemes visited him a few days before. Attached is his obituary which appears in his hometown paper, the South Bend Tribune, written by his daughter Karen. Love to her, her brother and sister, Cassie and John, Tess, and Bob's grandchildren, Ian, Chris, Sydney, Trea Gabby, and Merin.

We have reduced the funding goal for Bob's campaign and changed the title to keep Bob in Your Heart.  Bob's oldest daughter, Karen, and son, John, were generously helped by a friend and drove down to see Bob in Florida last weekend.  His youngest daughter, Cassie flew down on Sunday with her two daughters.  Skye and Tess, Terry's children, have come from Colorado with their two daughters.  Our brother Ken and his wife Carolyn, and my sister Joan are travelling down next week.  I am sad that we could not get Bob to the Utopia center in Tampa for treatment, and I am so greatful that so many people have come forward to send their love and contribute.  The power and love of of Bob's family, community, and network of friends demonstrates the lasting impression he has made on us all.

This past Saturday, October 29, was Bob's birthday. I made an imovie from stills and put it on dropbox. Copy this url you your browser to view:

We have had to change directions. Right now the clinic in Tampa is on hold. Two weeks ago Bob had to go to the ER for pneumonia and a blood infection. A week later he was back in the hospital for further complications. He's back home and is trying to rest. Fortunately, hospice has been able to help Bob and Terry manage, but the visit to the emergency room and doctors bills are still mounting. Terry said he was able to speak to loving children Karen, Cassie and John, this week. We appreciate all the love, prayers and donations people have made so far. The above video shows you what kind of guy, avid fisherman, loving father, great friend and  Bob  is.

Original Post

My next to oldest brother, Bob, has been battling colon cancer for the last three years.  Chemo has been a wicked dance partner during that time, and he has said it's been a race to see which kills him first.  Two weeks ago, his doctor said she can't do anything more for him.

Despite constant pain, he recently told my brothers, sister and me that he's not through fighting.  His step-daughter and son-in-law (Tess and Skye) live in Colorado, and are working to marshall resources that have had remarkable success fighting colon cancer with dietary supplements and herbal remedies.  Two years ago, Bob responded well to these therapies and sees this as his best chance.

Travel is difficult and he is very weak.  Skye was able to find a clinic in Florida about two hours from Bob's house, which offers the same protocols.  We had a conference call with the doctor on October 13, 2016, and Bob has been accepted into the clinic.

The protocol for the treatment runs to about $3000 a week, which is not covered by health insurance plans.   The doctors estimate he will need 8-9 weeks of treatment.   Treatments are given on a daily basis, so it would be best to find a condo for Bob to stay in, which can run from $50-$100+ a night.  Our goal is to help him meet medical as well as cover living expenses for him and his wife Terry.  Once he is stronger, he also wishes to travel to Indiana where he can see his daughters Karen and Cassie and his grandkids, Sidney, Gabby, Ian and Kris, then on to Colorado to see Tess, Skye, his beloved son, John, and our brother and sister, Al and Joan and their families.

Bob has been a great inspiration to me, exposing me to art, music and culture when I was a kid, being a hard-working father who raised two amazing daughters and a son, and is always striving for self-awareness and spiritual growth.

Any support or good words you can give him personally will go far to raise his spirits and encourage him.  Monetary gifts will go directly to Bob, with this site taking only service and processing fees (approximately 8% of each donation.)
