This is Maria, some may know her as MJ. She's creative, witty, and her zeal is contagious. She's the most giving person I know - from organizing OCC, feeding the homeless, volunteering as a missionary, to living with girls that transitioned out of foster care for a year. She continuously serves her community and church. She makes an impact everywhere she goes and inspires everyone along the way!
Maria's battle with Cystic Fibrosis began at birth. CF is a genetic disease that effects primarily the lungs. The constant infections have deteriorated her lungs, leaving them scarred and extremely weak.
She's now required to move with an oxygen tank and is wheelchair bound. At the age of 33, despite her fight, doctors have confirmed it's time for a double lung transplant. Without one, Maria might not survive her next infection or cold.
The cost of getting a lung transplant is high. In order to receive a lung transplant, Maria needs to go through extensive evaluations and be ready for 'the call' to be transported to Jacksonville. There will be around the clock care needed after her procedure and anti-rejection medications for life. This will also require Maria and her husband to relocate for a few months afterwards for healing and physical rehab.
As you can imagine, these out of pocket costs cause much stress to Maria and her family when thinking of receiving this life-saving transplant. Please contribute what you can and keep Maria in your thoughts during these difficult times.
