This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do...

Michaela was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 3rd and admitted to Upstate Medical University in Syracuse on July 4th to start chemotherapy where she will stay for the duration of the next month.

Anyone that knows Michaela knows how big of a heart this one has. She would give the shirt off of her back to anyone. She is there for her family and friends unconditionally. And this time, she needs us. Her parents are taking turns going back and forth from Watertown to be there with her and the costs they are going to incur from this in addition to the medical expenses will be extensive.

There is still so much Michaela has yet to have the answers to. But coming together to help this incredible human is the least we could ask for right now. We appreciate anything and everything you are able to give in support of Michaela and her family. <3

I wish I was posting this with a happy update. But the truth of the matter is, Kay didn't get very happy news today so with full disclosure, this isn't the update I was hoping to share.

Michaela is being discharged today; 36 days after she first stepped through Upstate Medical University. She will get to breathe fresh air for the first time in 36 days. She will get to snuggle with her dog Molly for the first time in 36 days. She will get to sleep in her own bed. (However, she is completely neutropenic so her dreams of getting herself a real good GoodFellos pizza is still on hold.)

The doctor's at Upstate informed Michaela this morning that the chemotherapy is still not working after 2 rounds and they have done all they can do for her at Upstate at this point. She is now in a pretty urgent need of a stem cell transplant. She has a consult in Rochester on Monday to discuss the logistics of this and to officially be put on a transplant list. She will still be required to receive outpatient chemotherapy daily at Upstate until they find a match.

We are urging people to please go to BeTheMatch.org and register for a swab kit. Even if you aren't a match for Michaela directly, you can be a match for someone else's Michaela. Someone else's daughter, someone else's sister, friend, granddaughter, niece, cousin...

And also, please keep sharing and donating. Every little bit helps.

Hi everyone.
I wanted to give a quick update on what's been happening the past few weeks. Michaela was originally set to have 1 round of chemo (7 days of a continual chemo drip). After this first round, she was given 7 days of "rest" for her counts to recover. On this day, Michaela received the heartbreaking news that the cancer was still present. Immediately, they started another 7 days of chemo. She is in the "rest" phase again and waiting for her counts to recover before she can be biopsied again. Fingers crossed that the cancer is gone. But that doesn't mean this is anywhere near over. Michaela will need to receive what they call "consolation" rounds of chemotherapy every 2 weeks. This is to prep her body for her stem cell transplant. As of now, there isn't a definite time-table for when this will happen. Once this transplant has been completed, she will have to live in a nearby hotel for 3 months for constant monitoring and checking that her body does not reject this transplant.

As always, we continue to learn day by day what Michaela is up against and going through. She is tired, but she is staying optimistic. Please continue to share this gofundme. The rallying behind this girl has been so impressive and we are blown away. But it isn't over <3
