As a primary school teacher at Inner Sydney Montessori School in Sydney, I was recently fortunate enough to travel to Kathmandu to take part in a Teaching prac which soon turned into the most life changing trip of my life.

I ended up spending 5 weeks not only learning how to use some of the Montessori materials but also training 50 women to be teachers. These women live in the 3rd most polluted city in the world, Kathmandu, They've suffered civil war and one of the biggest earthquakes ever recorded, losing family and friends to both. Yet they suck it up, battle on and still want to make a difference by teaching. Once qualified they will still only earn 153 dollars per month. But they feel empowered and their stories empowered me too.

At the end of the 5 weeks one man took me to the Indian border where some extremely poor people live. Here there are children who don't have any access to education at all, they don't have shoes toilets, and struggle to even put food on the table. This shocked me and as we returned to the village, I felt quite upset and helpless. The first 5000 dollars will go towards refurbishing the preschool pictured below which I will visit in 5 weeks.

Suddenly all that changed when a local man gave me 7000m2  of land and told me to help the people of their town by building a school to help educate the children there and give them a chance in life.

A local cafe owner at 'Qube on Bay' in Glebe has just agreed to give 20c from every coffee he sells to my fundraiser to help these children have a better future. What an absolute legend. We would really like some other sponsors so if you have any ideas please get in touch with us.

The idea is simple:

* Raise $100,000
* Build a school with 6 classrooms and a teacher training centre.
* The school will house 180 children (90 which will pay and 90 who will be picked up from the border each day by bus given free education and food and delivered home again safe and sound witha full tummy)
* The school will provide jobs for local women who will be trained in house on our own training centre.
* Volunteers will be invited from all over the world to teach in the school, giving the children an even better chance of success

And here's the big one! The school will be a Montessori school and it will provide the best quality education. it will act as a beacon school where teachers, principals and educational leaders can come and train to help incorporate the Montessori methods into schools across the country allowing the nation to improve and therefore giving the people of Nepal a fair chance in the world.

I’ve started the fundraising off by running last Sunday’s Sydney half marathon in my granny’s dress and we are already up to over 1000 dollars

It's a big idea but it can be done with your help. If you're doing a fund raiser this year and you can't think of a charity then please choose mine because you'll be making a real difference and every single penny we raise will be put to good use.

If you're a company and you would like a classroom named after you then you can sponsor us 10,000 dollars and that will get you a classroom with your company name above the door.

100 dollars and you'll get your name on a plaque above the front door and if you'd like to cough up the entire $100,000 we will name the whole school after you.

Please help me to make this difference, I've seen these people and I promised them I'd help them and with your help I can.

Thank you

The ‘James Harrison Library’ was officially opened today in the Nuwakot district high in the Himalayan mountains,

The legendary James Harrison travelled all the way from Mongolia to meet me in Nepal to help finish this project. He’s a carpenter and I wanted to cut costs.

The opening ceremony didn’t quite go to plan but the excitement in the children to read their first book was evident as the doors opened. Big thanks to Elizabeth Mary Cummings who donated a huge amount of books to make this project a success and my school community who never stop giving and supporting this work. I feel so lucky to have such support at the place I call work.

The cost of the shelves ran a little over budget so if you are looking to make a donation anywhere in the next few hours. (Ha) I’ll be happy to accept any amount, no matter how small. Click here https://www.gofundme.com/help-me-build-a-school-in-nepal

Thank you everyone. ❤️

It can be really lonely when you’ve decided you’re going to do something and you’re not going to stop until it’s a reality. You’ll sleep in mosquito ridden rooms at 40 degrees, travel through the night on buses driven by 15 year old drivers, and be criticised openly by people for being arrogant.

But when you see injustice, inequality and lack of opportunity for some, and you have the ability to make a difference then you’ve gotta try your best to power through the lonely nights, put your faith in the teenager in charge of the bus and ignore those who are willing to try to hurt you with their critical words and keep pushing on until you see the change you wish for those who need it most.

If you don’t do it, then who’s going to?

“Be the change you wish to see in the world, for the future lies in the hands of our children.”

Thank you all for your ongoing support

Big love ❤️

Tonight we spent our time packing and loading the van for the gruelling 10 hour drive from Kathmandu, through the mountains to the new teacher training centre in Butwal, Nepal.

Huge thanks and appreciation to everyone that has helped either with your kind words, support or donations. Special thanks go out everyone who helped make this happen people from all around the world have sent a huge amount of resources through to stock the teacher training centre.

The centre will allow teachers from the region to have a new perspective on education. Moving away from rote learning and understanding the true meaning of education.

Teachers will receive a new curriculum and have an opportunity to make new innovative teaching materials to help prepare their classrooms.

We are so excited to open the centre this Sunday and see the ripples it creates in the community and beyond.

How amazing is having friends who all want to help? Thank you everyone!!!

I’m still trying to get the 100 boxes of books in my garage to Nepal and if anyone knows a shipping firm or a firm willing to sponsor the freight costs that would be amazing.

Just as teachers are the bridge between the child and the knowledge, my aim is to be the bridge between those who want to help, and those who need it most.

Thank you again
