Marius is a Togolese asylum-seeker, who has recently moved to Lowell to fight for asylum in the Boston federal immigration courts. Marius comes from a family of political dissidents fighting for greater democracy, and was forced to flee his country after his parents were murdered by the government. He has been threatened everywhere he's tried to rebuild his life, and last year decided to journey across South and North America to seek asylum in the United States. Marius’ resilience and faith are inspiring.  Despite everything he has been through, Marius remains hopeful that he can now find a permanent home right here in the United States.

But Marius cannot do it alone. The Merrimack Valley Interfaith Sanctuary Network is providing housing for him, but he also needs funds for legal, medical and living expenses. This fundraiser has a target goal of $12,000 to cover the first 6 months of Marius’ stay (at which point he hopes to receive a work permit), with the full knowledge that he may very well need additional time and financial resources to win permanent residence in the USA.

Please donate as generously as you can, to help this incredible human remain here and make a life for himself in the peace and safety each human deserves.

Hi friends, thank you so much for all the support you have already shown Marius. Today (Saturday) he learned of an urgent medical need at home and is trying to raise $150 as quickly as possible to send to his kids. If you're able to contribute towards that, he will be extremely grateful. Thank you!

Dear friends,
Thank you so, so much for your generous support of Marius these past four weeks - you've allowed him to settle into his new home, get oriented, and to retain a lawyer. These are huge milestones in his process of applying for asylum, and you've made them possible, and he's extremely grateful.

In order to complete the asylum process with his new lawyer, and also to apply for a work permit (which will be critical to Marius' ability to successfully go through the probable two years of waiting before he sees an immigration judge for an individual hearing), we need to raise at least $1740 more for those legal fees alone. $1000 is for his asylum application with his new lawyer, which we need to raise in the next two months. $740 is for a work permit application. These figures don't, of course, include living expenses.

We know that with your help and support, Marius will be able to stay and fight for the asylum that he needs and deserves. Please share, and encourage your friends to do the same.
