PLEASE HELP MARIAH GET THE BRAIN SURGERY/TREATMENT
SHE NEEDS!

After her quality of life began to rapidly decline at age 18, in February of 2018  Mariah FINALLY got the answer to what was causing the headaches that had been plaguing her for over 4 years,  An MRI showed a cystic tumor on the pineal gland of her brain.   This is the geographical center of the brain.

What does this mean for Mariah?   Her ears ring constantly, her eyes feel like they are being pushed out of her head from the inside out...her head is constantly under pain and pressure to the point of having to lay down and pain medicine does NOTHING but make her sicker. Her eyesight and hearing are deteriorating, she is dizzy, confused, and nauseated much of the time. Insomnia and fatigue are also a big part of this condition.

Mariah had a job and was halfway through her associates degree in science; the first step toward her goal of becoming a doctor. Due to her missed days of work and confusion she was fired and had to stop classes because she could not keep up . This has truly broken her heart.

Since the pineal gland is what regulates sleep, the mass   causes Mariah extreme insomnia and fatigue on top of her chronic pain that most of us can only imagine living with.  In May of 2018 she had a spinal tap and found out she also has developed dangerously high intracranial pressure....(which gone untreated, can cause strokes, brain hemorrhage, and death). Most days consist of 18 to 20 hours in bed..because laying down is the ONLY form of relief she has and even that relief is minimal.    Mariah needs YOUR help to get the surgery she desperately needs to get back to living again!  To follow her dreams, to go back to school.... to work on her goals....to enjoy moments in her life again. with friends, .family, and her beloved pets.

The pineal gland is in the geographical center of the brain. It is a difficult and risky place to do surgery. Mariah needs to travel to see multiple providers out of state.  She has already been to Houston and Dallas and is under the care of a neurologist in Dallas.  Although Mariah has insurance that will cover some of the surgery itself, there will be much out of pocket expense for her and the family.  There will be a large copay,  multiple trips to out of state......airfare,  lodging and living expenses while out of town, medical equipment, as well household bills that will pile up as mom will need to take a significant amount of time off work to provide care for Mariah and travel with her.

Please consider giving.  Even if it's only $10.00 every bit helps!!! The funds will go directly toward medical expenses and travel/lodging  to the appointments and hospital.

For more information on Mariah's medical conditions, follow the links provided.

Whether you can donate or not, PLEASE share this page.....facebook, Twitter, Instagram, any social media platform you can think of.   Let's get Mariah healed so she can see how much fun being 19 can be!!! She has already missed so much.   Thank you for your generosity and time.

Hello everyone, it has been awhile since we updated you so here is what has been going on..... Mariah has tried both “treatments” that the neurologist in Texas recommended....oxygen treatments and the new migraine preventative injection AIMOVIG. Neither treatment have shown to be significantly helpful. Mariah has aboue 3 good hours in a day where she can normally function and then her brain becomes so fatigued she has to lay down and rest. We are still spirting through possible surgical options. Meanwhile we have been traveling to Battle Creek, MI regularly to have testing and treament at Doubleday Brain and Spine (functional neurology). While we do not yet have a written report, there have been verbal diagnosis of Nystagmus. Nystagmus most commonly causes the eyes to look involuntarily from side to side in a rapid, swinging motion rather than staying fixed on an object or person. Some nystagmuses, however, cause the eyes to jerk sideways or up and down. Acquired nystagmus can be caused by a disease (multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, diabetic neuropathy), an accident (head injury), or a neurological problem (side effect of a medication). https://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/nystagmus.htm She also has been diagnosed with dysautonomia.........a disorder of the central nervous system based in the brain. The treatment at the clinic in Battle Creek should help minimize some of her symptoms. Time will tell. Much of the testing and treatment at the clinic is NOT covered by insurance and is out of pocket, in addition to the travel and the eventuality of traveling out of state for brain surgery. Thank you for your donations and please keep sharing this campaign. Mariah is very greatful!!!

Update for supported from Jenny, Mariah's mom:

GO FUND ME DETAILS: The money donated through Go Fund Me (after GFM fees) is in my name but is deposited directly into a CHASE Bank account owned jointly by Mariah and myself. The money is used for the following: Medication not covered by insurance, copays, medical equipment, and travel and lodging for medically necessary trips out of state for specialists consults and treatment. Whenever possible, charity organizations are used for travel and lodging but this is not always available.

HEALTH DETAILS: Mariah continues to struggle each day with many neurological symptoms......head pain and pressure, eye pain and vision issues, tinnitus, confusion. vertigo and dizziness, weakness, fatigue and insomnia. She has taken a couple of falls due to these increased symptoms. Her body and her brain do not communicate well sometimes. She continues to follow the medical advice of the neurologist in Texas. I am hopeful that she is offered surgery soon to remove the mass. Her last MRI showed the beginning of atrophy (shrinkage or wasting of brain matter). A treating doctor stated that this makes it likely she could have dementia at an early age, She is 19 and wants to go back to school to pursue her medical career! We must help her get well! Please continue to share and show your support.

Quick update for our friends and family and supporters: Mariah has begun her oxygen treatment and is waiting on her Aimovig injection to arrive. These are treatments prescribed by her neurologist in Dallas with the idea that if she she is experiencing migraune symptoms on top of tumor symotoms it may help ease some of her discomfort. So far the oxygen isn't making a big difference. We are researching surgeons who are experienced with pineal tumor/cyst removal and plan to be travelling to meet one or nore of them in the next few months. Please keep sharing. These costs are catastrophic to the costs of keeping the household running . Plesae keep sharing the Go Fund Me page! Please contact us if you want ro help locally. We apprexiate you all so much!

Here is a short scholarly article written based on a study done of pineal gland cystuc tumor patients. If there has been any concern that brain surgery is too drastic of a measure for Mariab.... please read this! Please continue to share this fund as treatment requires extensive travel and time off work for mom.... and her debilitating symptoms will not allow Mariah to work at all. Since we have been home from Texas her existence is 20+ hours in bed . Mainly she forces herself up to eat. hydrate..take medicine.... and shower...a local fundraiser dinner and raffle are also being worked on. This fund right now is essential to getting further treatment. Please share everywhere you can. Thanks so much for your continued donations and support in every way! https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1092913497800044
