PLEASE HELP MARIAH GET THE BRAIN SURGERY/TREATMENT
SHE NEEDS!

After her quality of life began to rapidly decline at age 18, in February of 2018  Mariah FINALLY got the answer to what was causing the headaches that had been plaguing her for over 4 years,  An MRI showed a cystic tumor on the pineal gland of her brain.   This is the geographical center of the brain.

What does this mean for Mariah?   Her ears ring constantly, her eyes feel like they are being pushed out of her head from the inside out...her head is constantly under pain and pressure to the point of having to lay down and pain medicine does NOTHING but make her sicker. Her eyesight and hearing are deteriorating, she is dizzy, confused, and nauseated much of the time. Insomnia and fatigue are also a big part of this condition.

Mariah had a job and was halfway through her associates degree in science; the first step toward her goal of becoming a doctor. Due to her missed days of work and confusion she was fired and had to stop classes because she could not keep up . This has truly broken her heart.

Since the pineal gland is what regulates sleep, the mass   causes Mariah extreme insomnia and fatigue on top of her chronic pain that most of us can only imagine living with.  In May of 2018 she had a spinal tap and found out she also has developed dangerously high intracranial pressure....(which gone untreated, can cause strokes, brain hemorrhage, and death). Most days consist of 18 to 20 hours in bed..because laying down is the ONLY form of relief she has and even that relief is minimal.    Mariah needs YOUR help to get the surgery she desperately needs to get back to living again!  To follow her dreams, to go back to school.... to work on her goals....to enjoy moments in her life again. with friends, .family, and her beloved pets.

The pineal gland is in the geographical center of the brain. It is a difficult and risky place to do surgery. Mariah needs to travel to see multiple providers out of state.  She has already been to Houston and Dallas and is under the care of a neurologist in Dallas.  Although Mariah has insurance that will cover some of the surgery itself, there will be much out of pocket expense for her and the family.  There will be a large copay,  multiple trips to out of state......airfare,  lodging and living expenses while out of town, medical equipment, as well household bills that will pile up as mom will need to take a significant amount of time off work to provide care for Mariah and travel with her.

Please consider giving.  Even if it's only $10.00 every bit helps!!! The funds will go directly toward medical expenses and travel/lodging  to the appointments and hospital.

For more information on Mariah's medical conditions, follow the links provided.

Whether you can donate or not, PLEASE share this page.....facebook, Twitter, Instagram, any social media platform you can think of.   Let's get Mariah healed so she can see how much fun being 19 can be!!! She has already missed so much.   Thank you for your generosity and time.

GO Fund ME keeps freezing up and losing my attempts at updates!!! So I am copying and pasting updates from the TEAM MARIAH site at this point and will add a paragrah relevant to TODAY at the end,
2/20/19 SURGERY DAY
The surgeon told her he removed everything that he safely could and that was almost 100%. He had to remove most of hte pineal gland itself as well. It has to go to pathology of course but according to the resident on the case there was no apparent reason to worry that it was anything other than the cystic pineal tumor as seen in the scans. She is having some pain in the back where her drain tube is ...some pain in the back of rhe head... and some nausea and some little things to work through but all is being treated well!!!!!! Thanks for your continued support! She has ro be FLAT on her back all through the night. So thankful ....
Day 3 of recovery (surgery day is day zero). This had been the hardest so far. Pain at the incision site as expected.... horrible muscle pain her neck... extreme dizziness.tinnitus again... and pressure but different than before surgery. Imagine your eyeball guts being hooked to stretchy bands inside your head and someone pulling thise bands back toward the vack of your head. This is how Mariah describes her pressure today. Overall head pain as well. She is questioning if she did the right thing.... I am not. We called and had a med change hoping to alleviate some of the dizzy feeling so we shall see. We were warned by post op patients that days 3 and 4 are really bad so we are hoping its all part of the healing process. Please send prayers and positive vibes. This is NOT easy! Peace and love friends!
Day 5 post op! Mariah and I want to show our gratitude to all of our people who have been messaging...calling... sending healing energy...praying...checking in on her...holding down the fort at home ..and those who have donated and shared her Go Fund Me..... and who helped with and came to her local benefit in Oct. ...those who provided transportation....lodging......and stayed the course with us! She would not have made it this far along in her journey back to health without all of you! It's hard being so far away from home. She misses her pets..her boyfriend..her family..her friends... but she is in RECOVERY now!!!! It is a tough slow road but she is making steady progress. Hopefully we can statt decreasing the heavy pain meds within the next few days. We love you all amd thanks for being our champions!
Day 10 post brain surgery...... trying to wean down on the strong meds..... Mariah struggled with sleep last night and was EXHAUSTED today. Sne had a great brealfast but my 1230 pm she was napping...which basically lasted all day. We talked about getti g up to walk outside but she was too tired today. I woke her up for dinner and she was nauseated and still over tired. So we got her a Sprite and she is resting again. Hopefully she feels better later. We really want to go somewhere tomorrow! Post op appointment with her surgeon is the 8th.
Day 11 post op..... yesterday and today have been rough. No matter how much she sleeps... she needs more sleep. Understandable with brain surgery.... but she has also not been able to fully shake feeling dizzy. We got up and walked the halls to the community kitchen tonight and picked up our food that an awesome volunteer group came in and made! Grilled chicken and tons of fresh fruits and veggies...Yum!! Her appetite has been ok ..no nausea today.
Day 12 post op!!!!! Today we went for a couple walks around the halls....down to the kitchen.i made chicken. noodle soup and Mariah and I got to spend some time with a cool dude named Pete.... a therapy dog! And......... we played ping pong!!!! Her light sensitivity is slowly getting better and her hand eye coordination was great!
Day 13 Today sucks!!!!! Nonstop nausea and vomiting. Nothing seems to be helping. Waiting on a call backnfrom the doctor. Hoping for a nausea patch. Poor girl cannot even keep ice chips down so there are no pain meds in her body. No fever or any other symptoms at least.
DAY 15 Off to the ER here in Oregon as she has been having nonstop vomiting and diarrea. They gave her 2 bags of IV fluids and nausea meds. She is back at the hosue and trying to rest! The did a mini MRI to check for any brain issues! None found! Greatful!
DAY 17: She can eat some small things again, nausea is gone! She saw the surgeon for her scheduled post op visit and had the stitch in her back removed. He thinks she is doing great, expecially considering she had the stomach bug, which he is almost 100% certain was unrelated to her surgery.... so she will need MRIs at 3 months, 6 months. 9 months, and 12 months post op. Overall we are happy with what imorvements we have seen. It is difficult to really deterine much this early especially since she had the other tumm illness complicating recovery. We are greatful and have to much love and respect for her doctor and OHSU! Thank you for taking a chance on Mariah as she was willing to take a chance on you!
DAY 19 We are home!!!! Mariah is doing MUCH better. Tummy is better and the doctor did not think it was related to her surgery at all except maybe in the sense that major surgery and a hospital stay make ome more vulnerable to catching a germ/virus. She got the stitch out of her back at her post-op visit and she was quite happy to have that go! Her symptoms right now are headache but mild compared to pre-op and way different that the pre-op headache. She has some double vision at times and some dizziness. Her tinnitus is different. The doctor and several other post op patients say this is likely part of the healing process and that she will not have good data on symptom relief at least until 6 weeks out. Overall she feels better than before surgery already!!! She needs LOTS of rest at this point. Being home is helping with that! Thank you to all who have helped and reached out!!!

Today marks day 22 post op! There is still some incidion area pain but nothing that cannot be managed OTC. Her eyes no longer feel like they will pop out from the pressure. She does have some intermal eye pain but it is differnt now. It also ebs and flows and when it peaks she knowsi ti s time to rest. She needs LOTS and LOTS of sleep and rest to heal. She is still restircetd with activities and lifting but will slowly be ok to do more. She wants to do more so it makes this hard! She had been sick for so long she just wants her life back BUT she is on her way, she made it to ther other side,,,,RECOVERY mode! It is not clear yet (too early) to know for sure if she wil need any neuro rehab therapy or special vision therapy. If so these will need to occur out of town a couple hours away and will likely be out of pocket costs. Bills are coming it and money is tight. We are trying to save the little we have left in the GFM for possible therapy bulls and hospital copay bills coming in. Mom's jon is the only real household income other than the side money from being a CBD affiliate..... so being off with no pay on FMLA to be with Mariah has taken it's toll on us financially! Feel free to share this udpate and campaign. Within the next few weeks things should be closer to "normal" again... whatever that means right? Thanks so much for youtr love and support!!!

BIG NEWS!!!!!! Mariah was FINALLY able to have her surgery!!!! On 2/20/19. she had a craniotomy for a pineal cystic tumor resection which was done at OHSU in Oregon! The surgery it self was 3 hours long. The set up was over an hour. The remarkable surgeon said that the surgery went as expected and we could not be more thankful that he took a chance on Mariah knowing how debilitated she had become! Since surgery, shere have been some struggles and there have been some improvements. This is to be expected as surgery itself is a traumatic brain injury and so was the pineal mass. As the incision heals (It looks great) and the swelling goes down on the brain more improvements will surely be noted! Since surgery she has noticed that her eye pain and vision issues are getting better. Her tinnitus, which was constant before, comes and goes now. We have not seen any absence seizures! She needs LOTS of sleep and eye rest to properly recover and we know this is a process that can take awhile as the brain really does it's healing wile we sleep. We could not be more thankful to the surgeon and his team and to our family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers who have supported Mariah in her fight to get well. We do not know how much of the medical bills we will have to pay out of pocket quite yet and the possibility remains that she may need some neuro-rehab not covered by insurance to assist with recovery so if you wish to share this, please feel free. She will remain in Oregon a little while longer working on recovery and seeing her surgeon soon. THANKS YOU TO ALL OF HER SUPPORTERS!!! Peace and Love, more updates to come as we have them! Feel free to share the good news!

Mariah got her pre-op bloodwork completed today and ekg/exam last friday!!! It is getting close! We are working with a charity flight organization to help with flight costs BUT they have not yet confirmed we have flights secured. If our awesome team here wouldn't mind sharing her Go Fund Me and local donation info again it might REALLY help! We have the cost of food... transportation... medical copays.... and a months worth of bills to pay with no household income for that month. Also there may be the future cost of neuro rehab in Battle Creek to help ntih recovery. Thanks for all of your support! Please share this!!!!!!
