Help launch the #RESISTpodcast!

Donation protected
Hello and welcome to my GoFundMe fundraiser—Stretch goals now posted at the bottom (original goal of $697 funded in only 104 minutes!)

Danielle Muscato here. I'm a civil rights activist, writer, and transgender woman from St Louis. You may recognize my name as the woman whose "tweet storm" about Donald Trump's SNL tweets went viral four weeks ago. I wrote a follow-up op-ed for Newsweek here.

I'm launching a new podcast called #RESIST, and I'm excited to tell you all about it!

The podcast will be a weekly show, available on all the standard podcasting platforms including iTunes. I will be the primary host, and it will feature a rotating slate of co-hosts within the national activist community, with guests on each episode. Topics will cover the gamut of topical social-justice activism from #BlackLivesMatter to #FightFor15 to #NoDAPL to separation of religion and government, #trans bathroom bills, political corruption, and MUCH MORE—with a heavy focus on CONCRETE STEPS you can take to fight back.

Background: (see below for cost breakdown)

On Thursday, I launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $585 for me to travel from St Louis to Philadelphia and Washington, DC on the weekend of Jan 18-22, for the nation's largest LGBTQ activism conference (in Philly) as well as the Women's March on Washington (in DC). I expected the campaign to take 10 days, but thanks to your support, it was fully funded in only 1 hour and 49 minutes!

My purpose for that trip is to interview as many social justice activists at these 2 events as possible, so that I can publish a new series of written pieces over the next 2-3 months called "RESIST." The series will focus on social justice activism and concrete steps we can take to resist Donald Trump, fascism, and the alt-right during the new administration.

I have decided to build on the incredible success of Thursday's GoFundMe campaign by launching a new podcast. This is actually something I've had in the works for several weeks, with a planned launch fundraiser in February—but with the encouragement and support of all of YOU, I have decided to launch this NOW.

By doing this launch now, instead of just taking notes during my interviews for the written pieces, I can actually conduct good quality AUDIO interviews with the 10-20 activists from Philly and DC, and include those interviews in the #RESIST podcast, when it launches.

I will still, additionally, be publishing the planned written pieces about these activists' work.

In order to make this work, I will need to raise the funds by next Saturday, so I can buy everything I need before my trip. So, that gives us 1 week!

Simply put, your financial support makes my work possible. I am a full-time activist who is only able to make a positive difference because of YOU! Your support inspires and invigorates me and I am ineffably grateful.

As a special perk, if you donate $100 or more, you will also get a FREE #RESIST t-shirt. Thank you for your support!

As you may know, I am actually homeless at the moment. I was living in my car for awhile, but I'm currently staying in a homeless shelter in St Louis. I'm actually doing OK here for the time being and believe it's important to continue my work even while I am homeless (although if you would like to support me in helping with my housing situation and transition, I also have a Patreon pledge page here! ). I am *not* getting rich off doing this work, but I believe with all my heart that the work I do is incredibly important and that, under a Trump administration, it will only be more important moving forward. I am working hard to begin transitioning as a trans woman, and it's going very slowly. The world is not very accepting of people like me, but I'm not letting that stop me, or even slow me down. If you would like more information about my current situation, or if you have ANY other questions, please feel free to ask me directly, or also, last week I also hosted a 2-hour video AMA (ask me anything) here.

I am very grateful for your support, at any dollar amount. Thank you, and please share this as well!

Love and respect,
Danielle

Breakdown of estimated costs:

I spoke with half a dozen successful podcast hosts about what equipment I should get, and how much I should spend to do this right. After a LOT of research, here is what we came up with:

Zoom H5 Handy Recorder 4-channel portable audio recorder
$269.99 online with free shipping

Zoom EXH-6 2-channel accessory (allows me to record 4 microphones at once, instead of just 2)
$69.99 online with free shipping

Zoom APH-5 accessory pack (AC adaptor, windscreen for recording audio of outdoor rallies and marches, USB cable for editing on computer)
$49.99 online with free shipping

32 GB SD card - $15

Used headphones - about $20

2x used Shure SM58 microphones (about $75 ea) - $150

2x used mic stands with booms (about $15 ea) - $30

2x XLR mic cables (about $15 ea) - $30

AA batteries for portable use: $10

Audacity audio editing software - FREE

Subtotal: $645
---
GoFundMe fees: 5% of total, plus 2.9% and 30 cents per transaction = about $52
---
Total goal: $697

-----------------------
STRETCH GOALS (if we raise more than $697):

Zoom H6 instead of H5 (this unit would allow me to record 6 channels of audio instead of 4, for panel shows with more guests, and/or with co-hosts) - $350 on sale, instead of $270 for the H5

Some additional, better-quality microphones: Industry-standard Shure SM7b x2, used @ $330 ea ($660). I will then keep the Shure SM58s from above for panel shows, when I have additional guests.

Professional graphic design logo & assets for Twitter, Facebook, iTunes, etc: $100

Website build-out including hosting: $120

Stretch goal subtotal: $960

GoFundMe fees: 5% of total, plus 2.9% and 30 cents per transaction = about $75 => $1035

Total with current goal: $697 + 1035 = $1732
