Help Lahiki Rise

Donation protected
Aloha,  I’d like to share a story of Lahiki Minamishin, a young man with a special gifting. In his 23 years he has had some amazing highs and unfortunately some pretty bad lows.

Please join us as we share about this talented young Hawaiian, why he is so special, and how we can help.

Born and raised in Kona Hawaii, Lahiki was a junior pro surfer and ranked #2 in the world when he was just 13 years old. A Surfer magazine article dated 6/1/11 stated “When Shane Dorian and Dave Riddle both claim a surfer to be one of the most naturally gifted talents they’ve ever seen, people tend to take notice.” During his junior pro career, Lahiki dominated contest around the globe.

Lahiki kept strong in front of the cameras and performed exceptionally well, but unseen from the world, was the pain and trauma endured at home. Growing up his family was dependent on the Hawaii Island food bank. He and his siblings had to endure and witness traumatic abuse. From his earliest memories Lahiki recalls finding drugs and paraphernalia at home then destroying them, yearning for the adults in his life to stop using drugs. With all that chaos, Lahiki gravitated to his role models Delta Thompson and Dave Riddle (prominent leaders in the surfing community). When Lahiki was 14 Delta died from cancer, and with family abuse escalating Lahiki ran away from home and pulled out of competitive surfing.

At the age of 19 things began to change for Lahiki. Now a husband and father he has a renewed love for life and his own little family. Lahiki is back on the rise to the top. He works hard teaching surf lessons, fixing cars, doing all he can to provide for his little family of three. Now at 23, Lahiki is more focused and determined than ever.

In the winter season of 2017 (thanks to the help of Liam and Landon Mcnamara) Lahiki entered the Volcom Pipe pro surfing competition as a wild card. He stunned the surfing world as he placed 25th competing against 196 pro’s. With the help of friends and family Lahiki was able to compete in three more contests, earning enough ranking to qualify for upcoming contests this winter on the north shore of Oahu.

Lahiki is seated in The Triple Crown, HIC Sunset Pro, and The Pipe Master Trials. He is ready now more than ever and positioned for success. He dreams of making the World tour and being a role model and support for young people like himself who have had to overcome adversity.

Liam Mcnamara states: “Lahiki Minamishin is one of the most talented surfers ... he has so much potential ... there's a lot of talent in Hawaii that does not get proper support and Lahiki is a prime example of a talented surfer who can succeed if given the opportunity.”

We are asking for support to help cover some of his immediate competition expenses, would you please be a part of his success?
