Our organization is working for 9 years in the Garo Hills area in Meghalaya. Beside conservation of Western Hoolock Gibbon (Hoolock hoolock) sadly classified by IUCN amongst the 25 most endangered primates in the world in 2005 and 2008, the HURO programme places a strong emphasis on community development, including education, local health programs, developing sustainable agriculture and providing employments. From young individuals coming from small rural and poorly educated villages, we have created a passionate, hard-working and professional team at our centre and at the school (free and secular rural school, entirely run by the program). The professionalism of our program and our high standards for rehabilitation and care of our gibbons are globally recognized.
After a first successful release of Remi and Robinson's pair in 2016, we are currently conducting a second release operation with a single male, Kalsin.
Kalsin was rescued in late 2009 from illegal custody, where he was kept attached for four years. Once at the rehabilitation centre Kalsin slowly but confidently learned how to develop his natural wild behaviour, but remained unpaired.
To enable him to go back to the wild, we took the decision to start looking for a wild and floating partner for him. That's what we found last year! Named Susanna this amazing but lonely female lives alone in Ramwalkangre RF where we spent three months studying the habitat and enlightened the forest suitability for a new pair.
Now, the plan is to settle a temporary enclosure on Susanna's habitat and transfer Kalsin in it. This will allow the two to get to know each other and us to go step by step under the supervision of our scientific team. We will need to maintain the team on site round the clock 7 days a week and this for an initial period of three months.
The team will first evaluate the behaviour of both gibbons, their interactions (duet calls and physical contacts). Once found apt, we will then open the temporary enclosure and let Kalsin return to the wild with his new mate.
However, your help is crucial! We need to cover the cost of the enclosures construction, the medical check-up, the transfer of Kalsin on site, but mainly to maintaining the team on site. The estimated amount is of 7000 Euros. Thus, each support will be very precious, donation or sharing.
It will allow us to offer these two precious and lovely endangered Hoolock Gibbon a happy future into the wild!!!

Notre organisation travaille depuis neuf ans la le district des Garo Hills, au Meghalaya, un petit état du nord-est de l'Inde. En parallèle de la conservation des Gibbon Hoolock de l'Ouest (Hoolock hoolock) (tristement inclus par l'UICN parmi les 25 primates les plus en danger au monde en 2005 et 2008) via un projet de RRR (Recueils, Réhabilitation et Réintroduction) le Programme HURO à développer au sein de la communauté une importante interaction incluant un soutien à l'éducation, des programmes de santé locaux, un développement de l'agriculture durable ainsi la création d'emplois à l'échelle locale.
L'équipe dont nous disposons aujourd'hui, est principalement composée d'agriculteurs locaux, mais qui sont maintenant devenus passionné et rigoureux dans leur activité au centre et au sein des équipes pédagogique et de patrouille. Le professionnalisme du programme ainsi que les critères de qualité sont reconnus internationalement.
Après un premier relâché en 2016 de Rémi et Robinson, un projet de second relâché est actuellement en cours pour Kalsin, un jeune mâle adulte. Kalsin a été recueilli par notre équipe en 2009, d'une détention illégale où il était gardé attaché. Au centre de réhabilitation Kalsin a démontré, lentement mais surement, ses capacités à développer un comportement sauvage. Cependant il est resté sans partenaire.
Pour lui permettre de retourner dans la nature, nous avons pris la décision de rechercher une femelle sauvage flottante afin de pouvoir former un couple avec lui. Nous en avons trouvé une l'année dernière. Nommée Susanna par notre primatologiste, elle vie au sein de la réserve de Ramwalkangre. La forêt a été étudié et est convenable pour la nouvelle paire.
Maintenant le projet est de transférer Kalsin dans un enclos d'acclimatation au sein de l'habitat de Susanna. Cela permettra aux deux individus de commencer à se connaitre, cela sous l'étroite surveillance de notre équipe scientifique. Cette équipe sera maintenue sur le site 7 jours sur 7 pendant une période de trois mois.
Kalsin sera relâché après que les observations des interactions avec Susanna seront jugées adéquate.
Pour cela pour aide sera très précieuse !!! Nous devons couvrir le coût des constructions des volières sur le site, des check-ups médicaux, du transfert de Kalsin mais aussi l'entretien des équipes sur place. Le montant estimé de ces différents postes a été évalué à 7000 Euros. Chaque soutien est précieux, partage ou don !
Cela va nous permettre d'offrir à ces deux individus un avenir meilleur et de renforcer, même humblement, la population sauvage de Gibbon Hoolock de l'Ouest en Inde.
