After school on January 27th Junarre (7) was walking to a friends home roughly 2 blocks from school (Clara Barton Elementary - Milwaukee) Upon coming to a school crosswalk Junarre and his friend waited until it was safe to cross (the school no longer had crossing guards for budgetary reasons). A car stopped at the crosswalk and waited for them to cross. As Junarre began to cross the street a car began to pass the stopped car at a rate of nearly 60mph. Junarre was struck by the car and suffered life threatening injuries.
Junarre suffered a traumatic brain injury, fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, broken neck, broken tibia / fibula in right leg, broken left ankle / toes, bruised lungs , paralysis on left side of body, and possible sight issues.
Junarre is expected to be in the hospital until the end of march or later. He will need wheelchair assitance with all mobility, 24 hr supervison, relearning of skills (walking, reading, eating, speech).
In the past month Junarre has had 4 surgerys, 2 pins in each leg, 4 cat scans 3 MRI'S multiple X-rays .
To make matters worse, the driver of the car was unregistered and uninsured.
Junarre has been extremely strong and surrounded 24/7 by his mother, father and 8 month old brother.
Prior to the accident Junarre was extremely active playing basketball, football, wrestling. He also loves to play video games and go fishing.
