Hello, my name is Jobe and I am from Woorabinda, a small Aboriginal community west of Rockhampton. This year, however, I am calling Sydney home! I am moving 1500kms away from my people to pursue my passion, and that is acting. After two rounds of auditions, I am incredibly excited to have been accepted to study a Diploma of Screen Acting at Screenwise, Australia's Leading Film and Television Acting School! This is incredibly exciting for not only myself but my family and my community.

With no formal training, I have made films in my community with friends and family and have not only enjoyed making these but have been fortunate enough to have great success with them. Having written, filmed, directed and edited a short film titled 'Yolanda' in 2014, this went on to win three awards in a national competition. I then made a film 'Buloo' which placed second in the International Trop Fest Jr competition, also in 2014. I was then awarded a junior Cadetship with Qantas where I was flown to Sydney to write, direct and act in a short performance piece in 2015. In all my videos I have looked to showcase the importance of culture and storytelling as I have personally felt the power of these.

I am recognised in my community at 17 years old as a role model and a leader. I have been awarded two 'Woorie Deadly Awards' for my achievements in film, leadership and education (in 2016 I was first in my family to complete my Yr12 QCE).

My Dad is from Woorabinda, and my Mum is from Yarrabah, and I am from a family of 11 siblings. I have a strong love for the community of Woorabinda, however, for the opportunities I am seeking I have chosen to move to Sydney.

I am seeking your support as with changes to the structure of VET FEE Help there are no acting courses are on the VET Student Loan list as it is not a 'skills shortage area'. I have managed to receive some money from friends and family, however, I still need to pay $28000 of fees for this 2-year course and my family is unable to afford this. I am obtaining part-time work to support myself as much as possible, however, will not be able to afford the total of the fees.

I believe my journey will be an important one, not only for my future but for the other young people of Woorabinda, inspiring them that anything is possible, no matter the obstacles. That your goals are worth fighting for.
