Help Jessica & Sean's mom Shelley

Hi everyone,

My brother Sean and I are reaching out to the community to collect some funds for our mom Shelley who has recently become seriously ill.

This past spring, Shelley had a sinus headache. In June, Shelley was diagnosed with an inoperable cancer in her sinuses. It is progressing very fast.  Due to the specific location and size of the tumors, a panel of cancer specialists deduced that radiation therapy, chemotherapy or surgery would not help.  Shelley is hanging in there and choosing to ride out this unexpected body journey at home with family.

Shelley is a very private person, and it is taking a lot of courage for her to surrender making this situation public. We ask that you respect her privacy and not overwhelm her with attention.

She is unable to work or travel in her current condition.  This whole situation has come out of the blue and we really want her to be as comfortable as possible at this time. This is why we are asking for outside help.

Shelley has lived on the Sunshine Coast for several decades, you may know her as that hair-dresser with the healing touch, photographer of buddhas and water lilies, or just as that beautiful local woman riding her bike through Roberts Creek  with a wide open laughter.

Shelley dreams of living on the waterfront or lakeside again, so we are raising money to rent a place month to month where we can stay and sit and stare out at the ocean or lake view with her for the time being.

We love Shelley so very much and want to spend time with her in the comfort, ease and relaxation of the present moment.

Thanks for reading this and for all your love and support.

Sincerely, Jessica Gabriel & Sean Twohig

Hi all,
Well, it's been a full month since Shelley's death. We moved out of the beach front rental at the end of December; and then we took another week to sort through and distribute all of Shelley's worldly possessions from her Roberts Creek home.
As per her request, we continue to leave her ashes at every beach and waterfall we visit. Grief is active; we are inside of it.

Again, I must thank everyone who donated to the GoFund. In the end it all works out to being exactly enough to cover all the costs. This whole experience has been a true gift from the community.

I moved back to my home in Vancouver a couple days ago; and today I submit this obituary to the coast reporter to be published in print later this week...

Shelley Anne Twohig
February 27, 1959 - December 10, 2018

Our beautiful Shelley Twohig has passed away at age 59. After seven months battling cancer, Shelley died relaxed and empowered at home in Roberts Creek with both her children present, Jessica Gabriel and Sean Twohig. She is survived by her father Daniel Koop, and brothers Don, Barry, David and Danny. She is predeceased by her mother Beverley MacDonald in 2016. Shelley spent the majority of her life on the Sunshine Coast working as a hairdresser and photographer. She loved the natural world and was deeply concerned with our human place within it. We will forever remember Shelley's wide open laughter and carefree spirit.

A celebration of life will be held as an art exhibition of Shelley's photographs in 2019, location on the Sunshine Coast TBA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance.

Hello broken hearts,
It's been a week since Shelley died on December 10th. We cared for her dead body at home for three days before she was cremated on the 13th. During those three days with shell, we transformed the cardboard coffin into an art portal...

Go to this link for more detailed photos of the art: http://mothlit.tumblr.com/post/181195261668/coffin-painting

We're currently rustling up payment for the cremation.
The cremation cost 2767.50$

Hello dear ones,
It is with a heaving heart that I share with you the news of Shelley's passing.
On Monday December 10th at 3:43pm Shelley skipped across the ocean in a glittering shimmer. She was relaxed and calm as she died with both her children, Jessica and Sean present. Two MAiD nurses were there at Shelley's request. Shelley was the most powerful woman we know, and despite the immense pain caused by this cancer, she was just as ever determined to enjoy life with her closest loved ones until the very end. Shelley is so beautiful. A powerhouse. Her passing is a tragedy and our hearts are completely and forever broken.
Shell will be cremated on December 13th.
I can't express just how much all your support and love has meant to us. It's like a force-field of love surrounded us and allowed us to meet all of Shelley's wishes in her final days.

Hello dear goFUNders,
Wow, we are reaching the end of November which means that Shelley, Sean and I have had our waterfront rental for almost two full months.
I feel closer than ever to my mum and bro.
We plan to be here for December too.
Shelley' s condition is very steadily getting worse.
We adapt to new changes everyday.

Many of you have reached out to me via personal message and for obvious reasons i haven't been able to reply to everyone just yet. Time really bends in this place. I just wanted to say that I do really do feel buoyed by all the support offered by friends and community.

Jessica Gabriel
