My name is Cindy Duran and I live in the Glenbard East community.  My brother, Raul Duran, is close with Ivan Galarza who was one of the few individuals that was severely burned at a party Saturday night April 28, 2018. Over the next couple of weeks Ivan is gonna need multiple surgeries and physical therapy to help him recover. We created the GoFundMe to help out Ivan and the Galarza family with any financial troubles they will be experiencing after this tragic accident. All the money will be sent directly to Ivan and his family. We would appreciate any help anyone can offer to help him and his family in this time of need.

Hi everyone. Sorry for not putting up any updates. Today is a very special day, it is Ivan’s 17th birthday. Him, his family and all of us are so extremely grateful to God for letting Ivan be with us another year. Ivan has been doing better. He was able to have surgery and They removed the tracheostomy tube 5 weeks ago. It was a 4 hour operation but thank God he came out fine. He is going to therapy for 5 hours per day. He is putting all his effort into getting better but it is hard for him sometimes, which is understandable. We would like to thank everyone that has asked about Ivan and has been
Praying for him. We would like to ask for your continued support and prayers.

Hello everyone. First off we Would like to thank everyone for prayers for Ivan. Also, We would like to give a little update on Ivan. As of right now Ivan is not going to school even though he really wants too. The dr’s do say that it will most likely be until next semester that he can return. He will be getting home schooled for this semester so he doesn’t fall behind.
He is also going to therapy 3 hours per day and is putting a lot of effort in that. He is also wearing his compression mask but it is difficult for him to get used to it. But he is trying his best to keep it on as much as he can.
They did put a cast on his right arm so he can stretch his skin and little by little they will open it up more until his arm is able to extend all the way out.
On October 4th he does have an appointment for surgery. They will be removing his tracheostomy tube and will be performing cosmetic surgery on his neck. They will go in on October 4th and if all his tests come out well, they will perform the surgery that day. We would like to ask everyone for your prayers and best wishes for Ivan.

Cathy Thomas-Grumbach I tried to respond to your comment but couldn’t. I understand your concern but we wanted to transfer the money to Ivan’s parents’ account but because we already made one transfer to our account GoFundMe does not let us change the information. This is our first GoFundMe page that we set up so we were not aware of this, but his parents see how much money there is in here and they will see each withdrawal that is done. Yes, you are correct I rather have The money transferred over directly to them and we are trying to do everything we can to do that, but right now they need the money so we are doing everything to try to help them get these funds.

Hello everyone.  Sorry for the delay. First, We wanted to give everyone a little bit more information on how Ivan’s campaign donations will be given to the family.   I have known Ivan and his family since he was in kindergarten with my son. They have been friends ever since and have been in the same soccer team in Glendale Heights Sports Hub when they were little.  It was a friendship that would never break from the very beginning.  When we found out what happened to him, it truly broke my heart and my son cried out of desperation because he couldn’t help Ivan.  We knew we needed to do something to help his family and try to make this a little easier for them.  That is why we created this GoFundMe page.  The funds will be transferred to our account in our name and then we will wire the money to Ivan’s family. The money will be used for medical bills that will not be covered, to catch up on the bills from their home they are behind on and also on the special compression masks and clothing that Ivan needs to wear to prevent scarring and help the healing process, since the insurance does not cover this.  The family is still struggling and do need lots of help financially. Please help spread Ivan’s GoFundMe page and please we ask to keep him and his family in your prayers.  The Dr’s do say that it will 18-24 months for him to be healed.  They have also put a cast on Ivan’s arm so it can start stretching more since the skin by his elbow was not allowing him to do this. Thank you again from all the family. Please keep Ivan and his family in your prayers.
