My 95-year-old father Douglass, aka Papi, has been asked to move out of his senior housing for 62+ adults because of his decreasing capacity to live on his own.
They have strongly suggested that he move into assisted living.

I believe that as he grows older, Douglass has become less clear mentally. At times he acts very suspicious of me, and others, and keeps me at a far distance. As you may know, we have always been extremely close and this has been a painful transition for me. Yet, I am encouraged because he contacted me himself today when his building's management warned him that he will need to move.
This fundraiser is... to raise the amount needed for my partner Peter and I to travel from Sweden, where we live, to the United States in order to get an overview of my father's situation, and able to help him plan, coordinate, and prepare for this difficult transition with his and our family's best interest at heart. The money we raise will cover airfare,
This fundraiser isn't... to raise money for Douglass or his move. There is a chance he has finances to manage this transition, although if he does not, there are many public social services that will help us make this a smooth and safe transition who I will arrange with once I am in the US.
Douglass has been very secretive about his current financial situation, and unfortunately, until we are on the ground in Sarasota there is little to nothing I am able to do in regards to his private finances or the Turner Collection.

I live in Stockholm Sweden and due to personal circumstances, I live hand to mouth. Thus, I do not have the finances or resources to draw upon to manage this type of emergency. Yet, I am abundant in time.
And thus I turn to you. Can you help me help my father, Douglass?
It is my hope that by letting friends and family know about our situation there may be a few of you who has the resources available who would want the opportunity to help me help Douglass.

MY PRIMARY GOAL IS TO GET TO SARASOTA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
In the first two weeks there, my goals are:
-Reconnect with Papi and try to help him understand that I want to help
-Help him find new housing
-Arrange for him to move as quickly as possible
-Help pack his things
-Arrange power of attorney so that I am able to help him from a distance, even if he will not respond to my calls or emails.
What will the $3000 cover?
- 2 last-minute round trip tickets from Stockholm to Sarasota - appx $1800
-2 weeks at a well rated AirBNB - appx. $50/night within 2 blocks of Papi's current housing - appx. $1200
My partner Peter will join me for the first 2 weeks, as I believe his help would be indispensable, both as emotional support and with the physical tasks necessary.
Above and beyond...
Anything I raise above my initial goal will be used for related expenses. I will update the fundraiser so our "guardian angels" know how their support is being allocated.
For example, additional costs could include:
-Buying second-hand bikes on Craigslist when we arrive. I have an eye disease and can no longer drive and Peter does not drive.
-Buying bus passes and hiring taxi's for when traveling with Douglass
-Obtaining & paying for legal and/or care support to ensure that everything is in order for when I am not in Sarasota and ensure that Douglass is getting the assistance he needs.
After two weeks...
I believe after 2 weeks I will be able to earn Douglass's trust and help him understand I am there to help.
My hope is that if I need to stay longer than 2 weeks, Peter will be able to return home and I will be able to stay with Papi.
I believe that Douglass has the resources to support finding a new home and moving. But because of our limited contact, I will need to get an overview of the current situation when I am with him in person in order to help him plan for life's next steps.
