Help Gordie Recover & Back to Work

Don protégé

Hello,

January 10th of this year, after 15 years of alcoholism, body finally decided that it was time to die.  I developed a bleeding ulcer, my 5th actually, and in addition to losing nearly half of my blood volume, my liver decided to shut down as well.  My roommate at the time found me face-down on the living room floor.  I have been told that at the time, I was just repeating, "Help me...”, over and over.  She dialed 911.

I came-to roughly two weeks later in the ICU.  That isn't to say that I was unconscious though.  I was not lucid.  I was delirious for two weeks straight.  I remember much of it, and if I described it, you would think that it was a dream.  It seemed completely real to me at the time, but I was enough out-of-it that I pulled out 4 NG tubes and 2 Foleys (I'm very happy that I do not remember that part).

The ICU doctor told me that when I came to the hospital, I was hours away from death.  Over half my blood volume was gone.  My lungs could only keep my oxygen-saturation at 75% on room air.  The ammonia buildup in my system was not only bad enough to cause the delirium and hallucinations, but my entire body stank of it, and my urine was the color of dark iced tea.

I left the medical facilities on March 4th, started a new job March 6th, and have not had a drink since January 10th.  However, my liver was not yet done with returning to me the unkind treatment I gave it.  I was back in the hospital on May 14th, with severe "ascites", fluid leaking from my liver in to my abdominal cavity, and severe edema, swelling of my extremities.

Over the next 8 weeks, the fluid was drained 4 times for a total removal of 40.5 liters (10.7 gallons).  Additionally, I could not walk at all when I got to a skilled nursing facility, or what some people call, a nursing home.  But after what is now over 5 months, I walk better than I have in over a year, my liver is no longer leaking, all of my liver function tests are in the normal range, and while I thought that when I first arrived that my next step would be hospice care, it is now time for me to leave the facility, reenter the community, and return to work.

So here is my problem, and where I ask for your help in the next step of my recovery:

With the medical problems that began around October of last year, and being in medical facilities for all but 10 weeks of this year, and not receiving any pay, disability or otherwise, my funds are completely gone.  My 401k has been wiped out by divorce and medical costs, I no longer have any credit, and I have exactly 32 cents to my name, in my PayPal account.  I do not have any clothes besides two pairs of shorts, 2 underwear, and now, about 8 shirts, sent to me by a friend.  I do not have any possessions beyond my phone, which is not active.  My car has been repossessed.  I am very literally, starting over, with nothing. To top this off, the medical facility that I am in says that I must leave, as Medicaid will no longer cover my stay.  And it is time really, as I am now healthier than I have been in years.

What I do have is my computer, and my job.  And I have that because, despite only being on the job for 2 months before getting sick, they have kept me on Medical Leave.  I have my "return-to-work" authorizations, both from Medical, as well as my employer.  They have authorized me to return to work, from home, as soon as I have a home from which to operate.  They will not allow me work from the nursing home due to security issues, as I am responsible for backend core technology for a major bank here in the U.S., and information secrecy is required.

My situation is simple:  I need your help to get back on my feet.  I need to get an apartment, basic furnishings, some clothes, a cheap vehicle, internet service, pots, pans, linens, etc. so that I may return to work.  Once I have the foundation, I can discharge from the nursing home and return to full-time work immediately.  My situation is a catch-22 in that I need a place to be able to work, and I need to have money to get a place.

All of my family members are either deceased, in prison, or a hermit somewhere on a mountain in Wyoming.  I need your help now so that I have everything in place before the nursing home can legally compel me to leave, which is in the next two weeks.  It would be very helpful if I could get everything off the ground and moving in the next two weeks.

Any assistance given, I will apply in the order for the most benefit, getting me the furthest to my goal.  I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have, truthfully, publicly, and frankly.

Thank you,

Gordon Wrinn
