Life has been awfully hard for us over the past year. Gojii was forced to leave home because their family couldn’t accept their lifestyle and even tried to check them into a mental hospital for being openly queer. They moved in with me after a successful GFM campaign and things were pretty okay for the most part. But then after a few months we realized that my family is…..unbearable.
I had to drop out of school after a really bad xanax induced panic attack which also made me lose my student work study job. After that, it was –really- hard to find work in the area. It took me 6 months to land a part time job working minimum wage at an art store. I lasted two months at this job before quitting because they refused to pay me for graphic design work I did for them.
I have been surviving off furry art commissions which barely pays my bills. I need to pay a $160 health insurance bill every month so I don’t pay for anxiety medication out of pocket which is $225 without health insurance. Without the medication, functioning like a somewhat normal human is really hard.
Gojii was hired at a local Wawa and has been doing well there, but my mother requires rent from them which puts a dent in our funds to move.
My mother has stolen so much money from me. She drained my savings which probably had close to $2000 in it before she took it to pay off a car. I wanted to eventually use that money to become independent but she has held it over my head that she supports me, so she feels like she can take what she wants.
For a while, I thought that made sense. She’s a single mom who has gone bankrupt and supports an autistic child and two mentally ill millennials. I didn’t fight it, accepting that we were scratching each others backs. But …. Someone recently made a point that even though she’s my mother, she doesn’t have a right to take from me. I worked hard since age 17 to build that savings and like magic, it was gone. Just because my family is poor.
Not only that, but she has taken a lot of money out of me for food, promising to pay it back but I have yet to see it. I don’t ask her for anything other than to pick up my two medications once a month. I mostly stay in my room and avoid my family.
Gojii and I recently got two pet rats because we thought it would be nice, and they have turned out to be exceptional comfort animals since we both suffer from really bad mental illness stuff.
One thing about rats is that cigarette smoke can cause them a lot of health problems because their lungs are very fragile.
One thing about my mom, she smokes in the house. Nearly every day.
When we got the rats, I asked my mother to take her habit outside, and she told me she would.
But ever since then, she has continued to smoke in her room with the door closed, yet I smell it from my room…..across the house. Meaning the rats are being exposed to it.
And yes, I’ve asked her many times to please stop smoking because the rats cannot handle it and she promised to not do it. One time I knocked on her door, asked her to stop, and she opened the door very aggressively and screamed in my face not to ask again.
So not only is money a problem, but lying, stealing, and disrespect toward me, my pets, and my best friend, has been getting worse and worse.
We don’t want to be exposed to this anymore. We are suffering mentally because of constant worry. Our families don’t support or care about us. We want our own place, to live our own lives safely and peacefully.
We can’t do it alone. We need help. We need life to throw us a bone. Nobody wants to feel stuck and helpless.
We are asking for $3,000. Anything helps. Even a dollar will help to cover taxes. Signal boosting is free and means we’ll get more exposure.
