Help Garold Play Piano Again

$9,213 of $12,000 goal

Raised by 80 people in 3 months
Garold Whisler has been a close friend and mentor of mine for the past 14 years. The personal struggles and milestones that he helped me navigate make me forever indebted to him. His impact to my personal development will always resonate in my personal virtues. My fondest memories of him stem from when Garold served as assistant music director alongside my father, James Wahl at the Catholic Cathedral in Phoenix. On July 18th, 2017, Garold suffered a stroke in Lander, Wyoming while on sabbatical visiting his parents, Lucille & Garold.

Over the past year, Garold has made strides in learning to live independently. His resilience has shown in spades by the way he’s powered through his recovery. He’s not only able to enjoy his favorite glass of wine, but also able to eat food again on his own. His prowess as a musician really shines when you catch him playing his favorite piece on the piano with one side of his body, as he only has use of his right hand, but not of his left.

If you know the mettle of the Whisler family, you’ll know that Garold doesn’t give in to adversity. He's exceptional at learning things faster than anyone I’ve ever known. If you don’t know the Whislers, you may be surprised that his parents, both over 80 years of age, still maintain an intense exercise routine. When you scan the pictures in Garold’s Wyoming home, you’ll see numerous photos of his father hiking, one on Everest, lots rock climbing, et cetera. His father can do more miles on his morning bike ride than I do in a week, and I’m 27 years old.

These things exemplify the Whisler spirit of never giving up.  This is why Garold has booked his treatment at Neuro-IFRAH (Integrative Functional Rehabilitation and Habilitation) Center from August 6-10. He intends to recover and to be playing anew. With your help, he can recover much faster.

We have 1 month to raise $12,000 to cover the cost of a week long intensive treatment at Neuro-IFRAH.

If you are unable to donate, please share this story to help us reach our goal.

Garold currently stays with his parents, Lucille, Garold, and his partner, Royce Lee Briggs in the beautiful town of Lander, Wyoming.

Hello Everyone! On behalf of Garold and Royce, we wanted to thank you for making the trip to Neuro Ifrah a success!

Garold learned lots of great exercises and techniques to help improve and speed up his recovery.

One of the most exciting things is a special leg brace that's being made that will allow Garold to walk without any assistance, allowing him to take the longer leisurely strolls he's always loved to take by himself.

We'd like to ask for your help one more time in helping us reach our goal of $12,000 so Garold and Royce can return in a month to San Diego to pay for and pick up Garold's leg brace which is about $2,000.

I've included some pictures for you from their stay in San Diego. I'll post another update with pictures from the trip home soon!

Thank you again for all of your love, support and prayers.

While, through you generous donations Garold has been able to cover the cost of his treatment, we're still trying to raise a bit more to help cover his travel expenses.

We're trying to get to 300 Facebook shares by August 1st and raise another $980 to cover travel expenses by the 5th.

Please share Garold's story and help us reach our goal! Garold's always happy to hear from his friends. You can reach him on Facebook messenger or by phone. Contact me if you need more information.

For those of you that don't know Garold, I'm writing to you all for your support. Garold's a most dear friend of mine who suffered a stroke and we need help sharing his story.

For all those who have donated, shared our story and offered you good wishes, prayers and support, thank you!

Since we started this campaign for Garold on June 9th, his story has been shared 262 times on Facebook, 60 people have donated and we've raised over $7,600 to help cover the cost of his treatment.

In 3 weeks, Garold will be beginning a 7 day recovery program at Neuro Ifrah institute in San Diego. We're attempting to raise another $4,400 by August 5th, to ensure Garold is able to pay for travel to and from Lander, Wyoming, as well as related travel and other medical expenses.

If you can help, please donate or share or story.

Garold is a world class musician extraordinaire; an accomplished pianist, Organist, and Conductor.

Garold was the New Orleans Symphony orchestra conductor as well as the Director of Music at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Phoenix.

Although Garold lost the ability to fully control the left side of his body, he's still playing with his right hand and at the end of his treatment with Neuro Ifrah, he hopes to be able to fully play again and praise God and lead his community into worship.

Donate, share and spread the good word: Help Garold Play the Piano Again!

Most Sincerely,
