Help Garold Play Piano Again

Donation protected
Garold Whisler has been a close friend and mentor of mine for the past 14 years. The personal struggles and milestones that he helped me navigate make me forever indebted to him. His impact to my personal development will always resonate in my personal virtues. My fondest memories of him stem from when Garold served as assistant music director alongside my father, James Wahl at the Catholic Cathedral in Phoenix. On July 18th, 2017, Garold suffered a stroke in Lander, Wyoming while on sabbatical visiting his parents, Lucille & Garold.

Over the past year, Garold has made strides in learning to live independently. His resilience has shown in spades by the way he’s powered through his recovery. He’s not only able to enjoy his favorite glass of wine, but also able to eat food again on his own. His prowess as a musician really shines when you catch him playing his favorite piece on the piano with one side of his body, as he only has use of his right hand, but not of his left.

If you know the mettle of the Whisler family, you’ll know that Garold doesn’t give in to adversity. He's exceptional at learning things faster than anyone I’ve ever known. If you don’t know the Whislers, you may be surprised that his parents, both over 80 years of age, still maintain an intense exercise routine. When you scan the pictures in Garold’s Wyoming home, you’ll see numerous photos of his father hiking, one on Everest, lots rock climbing, et cetera. His father can do more miles on his morning bike ride than I do in a week, and I’m 27 years old.

These things exemplify the Whisler spirit of never giving up.  This is why Garold has booked his treatment at Neuro-IFRAH (Integrative Functional Rehabilitation and Habilitation) Center from August 6-10. He intends to recover and to be playing anew. With your help, he can recover much faster.

We have 1 month to raise $12,000 to cover the cost of a week long intensive treatment at Neuro-IFRAH.

If you are unable to donate, please share this story to help us reach our goal.

Garold currently stays with his parents, Lucille, Garold, and his partner, Royce Lee Briggs in the beautiful town of Lander, Wyoming.
