Saving an old man from being robbed, Yosif Al-Hasnawi, aged 19, was shot in the stomach by two men. His 13 year old brother called 911; the emergency services arrived. Not believing that Yosif was injured; accusing him of faking being shot, the emergency services, it is alleged, failed to act swiftly to treat him and take him to the closest emergency hospital. St Joseph’s hospital pronounced Yosif as dead shortly after he arrived in the emergency unit.
I loved my beloved son Yosif Al-Hasnawi and will love him forever. He was a smart, strong and sweet young man with dreams of becoming a doctor. He intended to serve all humanity, especially Canada. He was studying in Brock university to become a Medical Doctor. He wanted to do medical research or plastic surgery for burn victims. Yosif, an outstanding medical student at Brock University; supported his family financially and emotionally.
Loved and highly respected in his community, Yosif's death has sent shock waves through Hamilton.
I ask for your support to help me secure Justice for my son, Yosif and the people of Hamilton to ensure that all injured persons receive the best treatment and care available in this City. This series of events which occurred after the shooting cannot be allowed to happen again. No person in Hamilton, Ontario must ever suffer as Yosif suffered. The citizens of Hamilton must be able to rest assured that the emergency forces will care for them appropriately. The criminals who shot Yosif must be punished significantly for what they did.
We are in dire need of funds for legal and other proceedings that we are presenting to the Courts. We must bury Yosif in his homeland. We are a broken family; his two younger brothers and I have lost our precious young man in whom we placed all our dreams and hopes with. We appreciate all peoples that reached out to us and supported us in these hard times, we hold you all in our hearts dearly and truly. Thank you for your kindness and compassion.
