I have never ran a GoFundMe campaign before so bear with me.  I became aware of this about a week ago and was compelled to try and help this woman out.

In Houston, Mary Harrison shot and killed her husband, Dexter Harrison.  He was apparently beating the animals and they were arguing about it.  Mary shot Dexter.  A few days before, the cat had disappeared for several days.  Mary put up posters to find it.  It had returned home on it's own.  Mary admitted to detectives that she shot Dexter as he was beating cat and dog.  She also told the cops that he had no history of domestic/family violence and the cops had never been called to the residence which the cops confirmed.  While absolutely terrible, I can understand the rage involved.  I feel bad for the husband but doing such a thing is inexcusable to me as an animal lover.  It's instant rage.  Beating defenseless animals is never acceptable regardless of situation.  * Recent news items say that the cat, (Smokie), is alive but has a broken jaw and several broken ribs.   He is recovering.  Apparently the dog didn't suffer any noticable injuries.  Currently they are at the Houston SPCA.

I am trying to make contact with Mary now.  I don't know her. I have no personal ties.  I am currently researching her particulars including other family members, etc.,  to try and make contact with her and make sure this money gets to her.

Cruelty to animals is more than a 'pet peeve' with me.  No pun intended.  I would like to help her if I can and I'm sure other animal lovers out there would as well.  * Mary has bonded out of jail.  No information as to hearing date, etc.

IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO CONTACT MARY PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY.

I have her address and am sending a letter to her.  I'm hoping someone can come up with a phone number so I can speak directly to her.

If I am unable to make contact after 90 days, GoFund Me will automatically refund the money to all donors.  I will never have access to this money.

Let's help Mary out!

I'm suspending this campaign because I have not been able to make contact with Mary and I'm tired of trying to defend it to those that think it's a fraud. I've spent hours and hours and hours promoting it and dealing with messages from not only donors but scammers. The money will be automatically refunded to all donors after 90 days. Sorry it worked out this way. Thanks to all of you that donated.

No news today. No contact yet.

Also, I did read this:

"You must set up withdrawals within 30 days of receiving your first donation, or donations will be paused. If you do not set up withdrawals within 90 days of your first donation, all donations will be refunded."

I have corrected it in 'your story'.

And I've read that there is a way to hide nasty comments. It says to click on the 3 dots next to the comments but there are no dots next to the comments on my pages. Still working on it.

Thanks to everyone for your donations and support. We'll get there sooner or later!

There is a lot I'd like to say but I'll keep it simple.

Sort of.

I got a message a few days ago from a woman that is a friend of Mary's apparently. Here it is:

"I know Mary personally and came across this on Facebook. Mary and most of her family are not a part of most social media platforms, which is why she did not know about this. I have notified her and she was touched that a stranger would do this for her. I can not and will not comment on anything that happened as it is not my story to tell and hasn’t asked any details as I go off of the person I know she is.
I believe her lawyer may be in contact w you if not I will ask her how she would like to get any communication to you.
I will say this- off the record- Mary is a very kind and caring person. She has been a very good friend to me and many people. I can assure you, your cause is for a kind person."

I replied the next day and didn't get a response for 4 days. I sent another message asking if she had received my reply. She responded today saying that she was sorry for the delay, and she would give Mary's sister my number.

I'm a little shocked. If my friend was up for murder, I'd be a little more vigilant about things but I suppose we're all different. Maybe a murder charge and the situation that goes along with it isn't as important to them as it would be to me.

Now I'm waiting to see what happens.

I got a message from another woman that reads:

"Dear Scott- so many people want to donate to Mary. However, they feel odd sending money directly to someone who gave no information, such as your relationship to Mary... any of the story, no updates, etc. Also, no replies to email, make the account seem fraudulent ( which happens quite often.)Please reply, let us know more details, and please update the gofundme with the basic information, and updates, if you really want to help Mary. It is out there, but you have to work with people...who are wary of sending money to strangers with no info."

I've made 7 updates since the I started the page on June 3. Today is the 11th. This will be the 8th...

It should be abundantly clear I don't know this woman. Otherwise why would I be trying to make contact with her? I'd just call or email her.

"No info?" Are you kidding me? I've posted what info that has been provided to me and what I've come across on my own. (See above). I've divulged more than the news sites.

And the scam theorists. You're barking up the wrong tree here you idiots. You can't tell fact from fiction. Go away and troll someone else. Maybe try to get it right next time and do some good as opposed to pissing genuine people off.

I've spent hours and hours dealing with this thing. I've joined dozens of fb pet groups around the world and posted there. I've posted to dozens of personal pet groups, comment sections at news sites that are carrying this story and everywhere else I can think to.

I've asked people to share it but haven't seen any of it floating around.

Even her 'friend' doesn't seem especially anxious to put me in contact with Mary.

I don't expect the world to stop because I'm doing this but I find peoples reaction to this as odd for the most part.

We'll see what happens in the next few days.

I'll keep you posted, as always.

OK. I sent the letter this morning. Hopefully we'll hear from her in the next few days. I chatted with Dexter's niece, Shirlita Travis, this morning also. She's pissed that we're helping Mary, of course. She mentioned that the kids are not Mary's & Dexter's but Dexter's from another relationship. She refused to help. She's left a couple of nasty comments. I might feel the same way but doubt it. So I'm just waiting to hear back. In the meantime I'll keep trying to come up with a phone number for Mary. Thanks to everyone who has donated or been supportive in the comments.
