Happy New Year and special thanks to all who have helped me through the most difficult year of my life.    Your donations not only helped pay my out-of-pocket medical expenses & transportation to the many dr. appointments,  the money also helped me replace a rusted old refrigerator, fix my leaking roof and just recently, replace doors that rotted and were falling off their hinges, literally. You helped make this home a safer place for me and Marley.

More than that, you gave me your prayers, hope, the motivation to fight and a stronger will to live.  How does one say thank you for that?  I just don’t have the words to express my love and appreciation for every one of you.

I wanted to let you know how you each contributed to my being here for 2017.  Be happy, be healthy, be grateful and be kind.

So Much Love,

Laurel

Hello friends,
I apologize for not getting the following Memorial Notice to you sooner. It has been such a humbling and amazing experience to manage this GoFundMe for Laurel and Marley for over two years. The outpouring of love and support for them has been life-changing for all of Laurel’s friends and family and also for me. Marley asked me to add this note from her:

“Hi everyone, I am extremely grateful for the support from each and every one of the donors and friends of my mom and me. Your care and concern has made life so much easier and the transition smoother. Life is feeling more normal and I am doing well.

Every donation now goes to repairing and preserving the incredible home mom created; there
is still much to be done. Many of you have also asked about buying some of mom’s artwork. I am slowly working through the estate; not selling art or any other contents yet but probably will down the road. I also have made books of my mom’s drawings and other art, but they’re only sample right now until I can actually produce more at a lower cost. I will keep you posted on the progress.

Thank you again so much for your kindness and generosity!
Marley”

Your incredible generosity has made it possible for Marley to live in her special home even though there are still numerous repairs to make, including excavation under the home to prevent more damage to the structure. For that reason I would like to keep it going until December 31. Thank you to Renata for creating the following memorial to Laurel.
Please know what a difference you all have made and we all wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season.

With gratitude & love,
Michele

A memorial has been created by Renata Maculans, from Renata’s Creperie in Arcata, to
call together Laurel's tribe of fabulous fellow creatives, friends, and loved ones, for “Love
for Laurel”, a celebration of her life, at the Arcata Playhouse on Sunday, November 11th,
2018, from 4 - 7pm. We have created a spectacular, temporary installation/altar for this memorial event. So many of you have met Laurel through the mosaic community and touched her heart deeply,
especially in these last 2 years with your messages, generosity & loving support. We wanted
to extend an invitation to you to attend and if you cannot and want to participate, we are accepting:
(gifted) mosaic pieces (preferably hangable and not to exceed 3x5 ft.), stories, (non-
returnable) photos, flowers or other offerings, to be added to this shrine and later to be
shown for sale at Renata’s Creperie, proceeds to go to Marley’s trust.
Attendees are invited to add notes, mosaics & inspirations. We will take photos of the
altar and post them on Facebook after the event! Donated mosaics will be displayed locally
for sale for the following 2 months at Renata's Creperie, 1030 G St, in Arcata, and the funds
will be used to pay for the memorial, with any excess donated to her daughter Marley's trust.

Non-returnable mosaic art, photos, written stories/memories, flowers etc. can be sent to:
Celebration of Life Committee
c/o Marley Goldman
948 11th St.
Arcata, Ca 95521

If sending monetary donations for this event, please send to PayPal:
If you would like to donate monetarily for the event, you can go to paypal, send money, to
crepemama@hotmail.com, friend/gift option and include message "Laurel's Celebration of Life" with optional personal message that will get added to altar.
Via crepemama@hotmail.com include the message "Laurel's Celebration of Life". You are welcome to add a personal note that will get added to altar.

Dear Friends, the Mosaic Community and all donors,

As you know by now, Laurel passed away July 22, 2018 following almost two years of the most incredible example of courage, tenacity and the will to live.

I have changed the name of this fund to the Help Laurel Skye Trust. Laurel set up a trust for her daughter Marley when she first discovered she had cancer. Her main concern was always that her daughter have a safe home in the incredible mosaic palace they built together.

Laurel's letter to all of you this past January (below) is a reminder of how incredibly grateful she was for everyone that helped her and Marley.

A formal memorial service will announced later this year.

From Laurel's daughter Marley:

To all of my mom's friends, peers, and admirers,

I’ve been keeping up with all the stories/memories all of you have shared on social media and how much you miss my mom and admire her contributions to mosaic and the world at large. She and I had pretty much stopped working these last few years when the focus had shifted to managing her cancer. The support of other artists and friends from around the world was, and still is, a God-send. Currently, I’m regrouping and am waiting to see what my own next steps are in life.

The love and support from everyone has made a hard time easier. Thank you for all your donations, it has meant so much!

Marley

OMG! I just read these beautiful messages! I've been sick a lot and not often going to Facebook. Lots of nausea and fatigue, so I sleep as much as I can to get away from it. I try to keep hope alive, although some of my medical team tell me to be 'more realistic' that it is stage IV anger. So I find myself in the crosshairs and confused. Next week I go to Stanford Medical for a 2nd opinion. Still hoping. Had radiation on my leg a few days ago and am wheelchair/walker bound for 6 weeks. But hopefully up and walking again after that. My love and gratitude to everyone! God bless you all!

I live in Idaho and never got to meet Laurel in person but did email with her. When I couldn’t find epoxy clay that she used for some of her art here I ordered it from her. She sent it before I even got it paid for! I could tell she was one of those artists who, for her, art was not about the money, but about teaching and helping people. I told her in my thank you email she seemed like someone that would give the shirt off her back. She did say however she wouldn’t share her Uggs. LOL! So wish I could have met her in person and seen the mosaic masterpiece of a home shared by her and Marley. I know you’re sharing your talents and love in the world you’ve gone to. But you are deeply missed in this one. RIP Beautiful Laurel!

Laurel, Yay! Now doing Art Therapy! Powerful. Love the hansa mosaic--almost defying gravity, haha! Saw a Rudy Maxa travelogue last week on TV; he traveled to Rajasthan: I kept thinking, was Laurel there? Did Laurel see that when she was there? Did she stay there? Does she know the Shah?? :) You are an extraordinary woman to have shared those experiences with us students over the years. And pure Love. Thank you for your love & connection. You inspire me!

Love the Keith Richards bad hair day comment, soon you'll be able to put a little styling wax in it and embrace a new look.
