Hello everyone! My name is Margo, im a lucky mom of three wonderful boys. Johnathan, 10, Nicholas, 8 and Dillon, 2.  Life in our home was always happy, crazy, fun, chaotic but most importantly always full of laughter. That all changed when johnathan was 5 years old. We received news that forever changed our lives and our hearts. Johnathan was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a disease that i had never heard of before. There are many forms of Muscular Dystrophy but this particular one is the worst, being so rare it only affects 1 in every 3,500 males and is 100% fatal. Duchenne results in progressive loss of strength and is caused by a mutation in the gene that encodes for dystrophin. Because dystrophin is absent, the muscle cells are easily damaged. The progressive muscle weakness leads to serious medical problems particularly issues relating to the heart and lungs. Every case is different but most boys live to be about  20 years old, meaning sadly that Johnathan's life is already half over.
Johnathan needs help with every day to day task. Showering, using the restroom, getting dressed, getting in and out of bed etc. We spend most days inside because I dont have the proper vehicle to easily transport him, making important doctor visits and easy errands just to the grocery store very difficult. Just like any other young boy, his birthday wishes were always for a new bike or video game, or maybe a new lego set. Now his only wish is to be able to walk again. I can't grant that wish for him but i do want to help improve his quality of life the best i can. Being able to go on family outtings, go shopping and pick out clothes he wants, go watch the fireworks on the 4th of july, one of his favorite holidays or simply just going out for breakfast or dinner. So today im here, not asking for pity, just some help. I need to purchase a vehicle that can be easily accessible for Johnathan, also needed are handicap accessible modifications to the bathroom in order for him to be able to use the facilities without causing him pain or discomfort as well as safety precautions. Caring for Johnathan is a 24/7 job, making it hard to go out and earn money, making it extremly difficult to purchase the things he needs. I ask that you please find it in your hearts to share my story with family and friends. I would like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read and share this story, it is greatly appreciated and needed. Please remember, sharing is caring, please share this to get the word out so we can help Johnathan as much as possible, anything at all helps! Thank you all so very much, God bless!
