Help FCAT Fix the Cat Carrier

FCAT has a Suburban (The Cat Carrier) that we use for trapping large sites. It is now in need of repairs. (The photo above is the truck, NOT the Suburban,  and why we need it fixed.)

Why We Need This:

We use the suburban for large loads. We often have sites with 20 or more cats. The bed of the Suburban is 4’x8’x3’ — plenty of room for all the gear, food, traps, supplies, AND the carriers, so it can get done comfortably in one trip.

The heating/cooling system of the Suburban operates in the back as well as the cabin, so the cats and our volunteers can be comfortable regardless of the season or weather—whether it is really hot or really cold…or as is typical of Washington State, really wet.

For the size of this vehicle, the gas mileage isn’t too bad. It’s got a few “bells & whistles” that make it nice for the volunteers while they sit in traffic to & from the trap sites, our facility, and local Spay/Neuter Clinics.

What it will cost to replace this vehicle is probably far more than what it will cost to repair.

What Will The Repairs Cost:

We checked with a few places, and the best so far seems to be Seattle Transmission. The estimate we have from them is:

rebuilt rear end INCLUDES the rear axles:  $1800.00
tune up:  $345.00
tranny service:  $180.00
oil leak repair (possible rear main seal):  $500.00

Total:  $2825.00 plus tax

So we’ve rounded up—Goal:  $3000.00

Any funds going over the cost of repairs or our goal will go for gas, cat food, or other supplies for trapping.

These funds are deposited into FCAT’s account and are used strictly for the work FCAT does. FCAT is a group of volunteers, so 100% of funds is used for trapping related expenses—traps, carriers, food, supplies, fuel, etc.

The GoFundMe platform is FREE. However, there is a payment processing fee of 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation.

Who Is FCAT?

Feral Cat Assistance & Trapping (FCAT) is group of dedicated volunteers who trap feral cats, spay or neuter (S/N) them, and then return them to where they were trapped. This is a process called trap, neuter, & return (TNR) and is considered one of the most humane methods to control feral cat population.

FCAT has one mission: to control the population of feral cats through the use of TNR. FCAT traps, neuters, and returns approximately 800 adult cats per year in King, Pierce, Lewis and Grays Harbor Counties.

Here is another photo showing why we need the Suburban (The Cat Carrier) fixed...
This is 9 carriers in the back seat of the pickup because it is too cold to put them in the back (bed). I couldn't keep trapping because I had no where to put them, it's just too cold in the truck bed, even though it's covered.
