For those asking how they can help Jackie or my family, or if there is anything they can send to the room... in lieu of flowers or other gifts (which she has LOVED) please consider making a donation to this incredible organization that has made the stress of this entire incident a lot more bearable.
My parents and I will be contributing a donation of our own, but we’d love for friends and family to contribute whatever they can to this nonprofit, as well.
Because of the severity of my sister’s injuries, the doctor is asking my family stay in Charlotte for another full week. SO many people have asked how they can contribute to my family financially because the cost of hotel stays, eating expenses, gas and the hospital bills will of course begin to add up. We feel fortunate to be in a position that these expenses are something that we can afford and won’t break the bank or put my family through any type of severe financial strife. We recognize that there are so many other families that need this type of assistance, and that’s why we feel this is the perfect way for our friends and family members to contribute to a cause that has helped my family EXPONENTIALLY.
The Hospitality House of Charlotte is a nonprofit organization which aims to help aid the family members of patients who are impaired and are needing an extended stay while their loved ones are receiving the care they need. While hotels in the area start around 100/night, the Hospitality House of Charlotte simply charges 45 a room (which sleeps a family of four) and they provide laundry facilities, fully stocked fridge and pantry, and 3 home-cooked meals a day.
On top of that, the facility itself is SO well-kept. It was honestly nicer than the hotel we stayed originally. The staff is incredibly accommodating and helpful, and do everything they can to make their facility feel like your home. They understand that families are under an incredible amount of stress and do everything they can to help the process.
Nonprofit organizations like this one stay afloat on donations, alone. The amount they charge for room and board is minuscule when you look to see the environment and services they provide. We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to stay in this facility. They are even allowing Jackie to stay with my family post-discharge so that she can visit with her plastic surgeon for follow ups.
Again, we are so appreciative of all the gifts Jackie has received on top of all the well wishes, prayers and good vibes. I know for a fact that the love and support she has received from you all has been instrumental in her recovery.
