Help Evan Fly!

Donation protected
Evan is an unusual 16 year old.  Aviation is his singular passion.

In 2015, the Valley Fire roared through neighboring Lake County, devastating the town of Middletown.  Evan spent many hours at the Sonoma County Cal Fire Air Attack base, watching the air tankers, land, reload retardant, and take back off in their desperate fight to save homes and land.

Two years later, in 2017, the Tubbs Fire struck much closer to home.  At the time, it became California's most devastating wildfire.  The flames wiped out the neighborhood of Coffey Park.  The fire stopped approximately 5 blocks from Evan's Grandma's house; she was one of the lucky ones.  Overall, more than 5,000 homes were lost in Sonoma County.

Together, these tragic fires made it clear to Evan what his life's work would be . . . to fly air tankers and help people when flames threaten their homes and lives.

About a year ago, Evan set a goal for himself . . . to complete his solo flights in both helicopters and airplanes on his 16th birthday.  Earlier this month, he did just that.  He successfully soloed first in an R22 helicopter.  After lunch, that success was followed by a successful solo flight in a Cessna 152.  This is an extremely rare accomplishment.  The study and practice necessary to achieve this demonstrates Evan's commitment.

Flying lessons are extremely expensive.  Evan has saved every single penny he is given or has earned and puts it towards flying.  He and his sister sell eggs from their chickens to earn more money.  He will, of course, be getting a job this summer.  When birthdays or the holidays come around, and people ask him what he would like, his only answer is, "Money for flying."

Evan is a sophomore in high school.  He has straight A's and takes AP classes.  He is close to earning the Boy Scout Eagle Rank and serves his troop as Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Troop Guide.  In addition, he participates in efforts to bring aviation to other young people by serving on the Education Committee at the local air museum.

Evan works extraordinarily hard at everything he does.  Unfortunately, selling eggs, birthday money, and even a part-time, high school summer job, isn't enough to continue his flying lessons.

Evan's next goal is to achieve his private pilot licenses in both helicopter and airplane, as well as IFR and multi-engine ratings.  These are the next steps in his progression as a pilot.  His plan is to accomplish these things in the next year.  All donations will go towards flying lessons.

The local newspaper wrote about his recent double solo.  Here's a link to the article:  https://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/9416706-181/sebastopol-youth-celebrates-his-16th

Please help this deserving young man reach his goal of being an air tanker pilot so that he may help save lives and homes.  Thank you in advance for your donation.
